Backstage update on Drew McIntyre’s possible future with WWE

According to a new report from Fightful Select, it is believed that Drew McIntyre’s current WWE contract is set to expire sometime in very early next year, before WrestleMania 40.

The report also notes that at the present time, the 37-year-old McIntyre is said to be very undecided on his future. Fightful Select said that sources told them McIntyre performed at WrestleMania 39 as if it could have been his last.

Fightful Select indicated further that McIntyre is said to be open to exploring other options outside of WWE, but would be willing to leave the door open to coming back to WWE in the future. He was one of many superstars on the main roster who were not told ahead of time about their WWE Draft plans until it was announced on WWE programming. It has been said that Drew is “very hands-on” when it comes to his character and creative direction. There were sources, per Fightful Select who said there had been some talk with speculation that creative made pitches a turn heel. It was further noted McIntyre would have likely ended up pushing back and would done the heel turn only if it made sense from creative standpoint.

Fightful Select concluded by saying that the talent they spoke with said that they are not sure how the deal with with Endeavor will affect future contract negotiations.

We reported back on April 9 that McIntyre had been dealing with a health issue or possible injury which started prior to his Triple Threat WWE Intercontinental Match at WrestleMania 39. Then on April 14, McIntyre removed profile pictures and bio information from his Twitter profile, effectively making a “black out” of the page.

We will provide more information on the status of Drew McIntyre as it becomes available.
