CM Punk was reportedly backstage at WWE Raw, was asked to leave

According to Fightful Select, multiple sources indicated that AEW star CM Punk was backstage at today’s WWE Raw at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL.

PWInsider reported Punk briefly had a visit with WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H. This would have been their first in-person talk since Punk walked out of WWE back in 2014.

Fightful Select also notes there is no word on who Punk was there to visit. However, sources are saying Punk met with several WWE talents, including The Miz, but was eventually asked to leave the Allstate Arena. It was further said that Punk was asked to leave by WWE’s Head of Security. F4WOnline did confirm that Punk was asked to leave by security.

Per PWInsider, a WWE source believed Punk may have been asked to leave since he is under contract to AEW. The same source said Punk being asked to leave was a call made by Vince McMahon, who is said not backstage at Raw this week. Punk left without incident, said his goodbyes and left the venue.

Fightful Select concluded by saying that it was speculated by numerous WWE talents that Punk’s visit to the Allstate Arena was a publicity stunt to push his upcoming return to AEW.

There has been much speculation that AEW CEO and President Tony Khan, who is set to appear on this Wednesday’s Dynamite, could announce details on a brand new AEW TV show that will include Punk’s rumored return. It has also said the show would be a “soft brand-split” with talent who are only willing to work with Punk would be on the show.

It has been further rumored the new show will air Saturday night’s on TNT from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm ET.
