Cody Rhodes attacked by Brock Lesnar on Monday’s WWE Raw

Brock Lesnar attacked Cody Rhodes near the end of Monday’s WWE Raw.

Cody Rhodes came down to the ring and confronted Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns the night after he was defeated by Reigns in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 39. Cody told Reigns that he had him beat on Sunday night that he wanted a rematch for titles. Paul Heyman then told Cody that would not get his rematch. Rhodes still wanted to wrestle, so he challenged Reigns and Sikoa to a tag team match.

Heyman accepted Cody’s challenge and then told him his partner had to be someone who completed at WrestleMania. Heyman then went on to tell Rhodes that if he loses, he would never again challenge for the Undisputed Title as long as Reigns was the champion.

Below are excerpts from Mike Tedesco’s WWE Raw recap of how it all went down.

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring and shakes hands with Triple H. “The Wise Man” Paul Heyman and “The Enforcer” Solo Sikoa stand at his side. Reigns poses as pyrotechnics go off. The crowd is loudly booing him. Reigns stands around and says nothing. A loud “Roman sucks” chant picks up. Reigns has a cut on his forehead from his war in the main event of WrestleMania last night against “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes.

Reigns says, “I guess after last night’s performance, we should probably do it like this tonight. Hollywood… acknowledge me!”

“Wrestling has more than one royal family.”

“The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes makes his way to the ring to a huge ovation. Rhodes came up short of finishing the story against Roman Reigns last night at WrestleMania. Rhodes gets in the ring and stares at the man who beat him the night before and crushed his dream. A “Cody” chant picks up. Rhodes says he knows what he wants to talk about. Today is turning out a lot differently for him than he anticipated. Rhodes thought he would be standing here as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Rhodes can see he doesn’t have it. Rhodes will acknowledge this: last night in the main event of WrestleMania 39, Reigns was the better competitor. Reigns smirks. Rhodes says we always have to do this with the world watching, but he wishes the interference wasn’t a factor. Rhodes knows that Reigns knows he has won matches that he narrowly skated by. Last night wasn’t the case. Last night, Rhodes had him. Reigns shakes his head.

Rhodes says he knew what he wanted to talk about… it boils down to just one word: rematch!

Paul Heyman comes up to Reigns and asks for the microphone. Reigns gives it to The Wise Man. Heyman says he was thinking, on behalf of The Tribal Chief, when exactly would Rhodes like this hypothetical rematch. Rhodes laughs and then says, “Tonight!” The crowd explodes! Reigns sneers and looks at Rhodes. Heyman says, “No rematch!” Heyman says not tonight, not in Puerto Rico, not at SummerSlam, not at Survivor Series, not at the Royal Rumble, not at Madison Square Garden, not in San Francisco where life does exist in California. The crowd is not happy. Heyman says that’s called “calling the shots” because you live on the Island of Relevancy.

Rhodes asks “Mr. Heyman” if he thinks he’s in a normal mood for the games and chicanery. After everything he went through in his entire career for last night to happen to him. Rhodes says it’s time to cut to the chase: Reigns doesn’t want to do the rematch and give the people what they want. Since he had to face all of them anyway, Rhodes suggests a tag team match so they can do something. Heyman consults with The Tribal Chief. Heyman says the challenge has been accepted. There are two parameters: if someone is stupid enough in the locker room to team with him, they have to have competed at WrestleMania this past weekend. Also, if they lose to Reigns and Sikoa, they can never compete for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship as long as Reigns holds the title!

Brock Lesnar’s music hits! Lesnar comes out to a HUGE ovation. Lesnar is already banned from going for the title since he lost to Reigns at SummerSlam last year. The stipulation doesn’t impact him. Lesnar gets in the ring and shakes hands with Rhodes! Reigns looks disgusted and leaves the ring. Heyman looks stunned. Lesnar and Rhodes celebrate in the ring.

Mike Rome finishes introducing everyone in the ring… and all of a sudden, Brock Lesnar lifts Cody Rhodes up and drops him with an F-5! Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman look stunned. Reigns signals to Heyman and Sikoa for them to get out of the ring. Lesnar stands over Rhodes, and the crowd loudly boos him. Lesnar grabs Rhodes and drops him with a second F-5. Lesnar kicks him in the head a few times. Lesnar looks down at Rhodes before pulling him up by the taped ribs and spiking him on his shoulder with a German Suplex.

Lesnar knocks Rhodes out of the ring and sends him into the barricade. Lesnar suplexes him into the timekeeper’s area. Lesnar goes into the timekeeper’s area and smashes a chair on Rhodes’s back. Lesnar is fired up and grabs the top half of the steel ring steps. Rhodes stumbles out of the timekeeper’s area and takes the steel steps to the side of the body and head. Lesnar throws the steps into the ring. Lesnar grabs Rhodes and gives him an F-5 through the commentary table! Lesnar lets out a primal scream. Lesnar threatens Adam Pearce and other officials that try to help.

Lesnar soon gets Rhodes into the ring and hits an F-5 on the steel steps! Lesnar walks off. WWE officials, doctors, and referees get in the ring to check on Rhodes. Lesnar sees this and sees that Rhodes slightly puts his arm up. Lesnar is fired up and charges the ring. Lesnar grabs a steel chair and gets in the ring. Lesnar smashes the chair on Rhodes’s back before hitting himself in the head with the chair. Lesnar then drives the chair into Rhodes’s throat and shouts something that is completely censored by the USA Network. Lesnar throws the chair aside and leaves the arena.

The trainers get in the ring, and a stretcher is brought out. The crowd erupts when Brock Lesnar walks out again, this time removing his gloves. Lesnar stands at the top of the ramp and flips everyone off as the show comes to an end.
