AEW star Jake Atlas was arrested in Orlando, Florida on May 23 on a misdemeanor battery (domestic violence) charge.
Atlas, real name Kenny Marquez or Kenny Martinez based on court documents, was arrested in the early hours on, May 23 after an incident which began at an Orlando bar and then continued at a friend’s house.
The police report notes Atlas was drinking with friends at the bar, and called his partner and asked him to join him. Atlas’s partner did so, and then attempted to get Atlas to leave the bar. The report further notes that Atlas asked his partner to go with him “to a female friend’s house to engage in sexual activities.” The report says the partner agreed, and that a “few friends then relocated” to the friend’s residence, where Atlas continued drinking.
The police report states that Atlas and his domestic partner then got into a verbal argument at the friend’s house after Atlas’ partner “showed more attention to the female half.”
The report also states Atlas then “became physically aggressive and charged at” his partner. The report says that a friend twice stepped between Atlas and his partner, but that after the second time, Atlas scratched his partner’s forearm and tore his shirt.
The local police said gave Atlas multiple opportunities to leave the scene without further incident, but refused. It was then police said they were called to the scene.
The arresting officer notes in the report Atlas was given “multiple opportunities to tell his side. However, Atlas seemed only interested in “talking bad about” his partner.
Based on statements the arresting officer received, and the scratch to the left forearm of Atlas’ partner, the officer found probable cause to arrest Atlas on a misdemeanor battery (domestic violence) charge.
Atlas was released from jail later on May 23, and signed an agreement that he would have no contact with the alleged victim and must stay at least 500 feet away until otherwise allowed by the Ninth Judicial Court in Orange County, Florida. Atlas will be arraigned on the domestic violence charge on June 28.
Atlas made his AEW debut at a Dark taping last December. He officially signed with the promotion this past January. WWE released him back in August 2021.
Atlas underwent surgery this past February for a torn ACL he suffered in his second AEW match against Adam Cole, back on January 5, which was a Rampage television taping. He has been out of action since then.
