Roman Reigns is your new Undisputed Unified WWE Universal Champion.
In what was billed by WWE as “The Biggest WrestleMania Match of All-Time” – Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 38 Night Two at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX, to unify both the WWE Universal title and WWE Championship.
It was also noted that the championship will now be called the WWE Unified Universal Championship going forward.
This is the first time WWE will have a singles main championship since 2016, when the company brought back the brand split.
Below is an excerpt from Mike Tedesco’s WrestleMania 38 Night Two recap of how it all went down.
The referee starts to count Lesnar out, but Lesnar makes it in at the count of nine. Reigns charges and hits a spear on Lesnar, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Reigns sets up for a Superman Punch and connects. Reigns taunts the crowd and drops Lesnar with another Superman Punch. Reigns shouts that he is the greatest of all time. Lesnar is laughing and gets to his feet. Reigns goes for a third Superman Punch, but Lesnar avoids it and hits a German Suplex. Lesnar hits two more German Suplexes. Lesnar is holding his ribs in pain from the two spears. Lesnar hits a fourth German Suplex and gets to his feet before doing his strut. Lesnar connects with his fifth German Suplex of the match and is fired up. Lesnar scoops Lesnar up for an F5, but Reigns slides off and hits a third Superman Punch.
Reigns poses in the corner, and Paul Heyman shouts encouragement toward him. Reigns is fired up and goes for a Spear, but Lesnar counters with an F5! Lesnar covers, but Reigns kicks out at two-and-a-half! Lesnar is furious and stands over the Tribal Chief. The crowd is buzzing. Lesnar lifts Reigns, but Reigns rakes the eyes. Reigns shoves him to the corner, and Lesnar nearly hits the referee. Reigns then shoulders Lesnar into the referee. The referee goes down hard. Reigns low blows Lesnar! Heyman hands the Universal Title to Reigns, and Reigns hits Lesnar in the face with it like he did at this year’s Royal Rumble. Reigns covers, but Lesnar just barely kicks out!
Reigns says that no one will ever be able to follow him. He’s the best. Reigns looks down at Lesnar and warns him not to get up. Reigns hits the ropes and spears him from behind, but Lesnar grabs the bottom rope to break up the pin. Reigns cannot believe he has not put Lesnar away. Reigns goes for a spear, but Lesnar counters into a Kimura Lock! Lesnar rips at the arm. Reigns screams in pain, but he just barely gets his free hand on the bottom rope to break it up. Lesnar holds the submission on for five more seconds.
Paul Heyman shouts encouragement to Reigns. Reigns says his shoulder is out. Lesnar lifts Reigns up for an F5, but Reigns slides off and crushes Lesnar with a spear for the victory!
Reigns seemingly pops his shoulder back in and holds up the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship. Reigns has a lot of trouble lifting his left arm up. Replays show that Heyman pushed the bottom rope toward Reigns’ hand to get him out of the Kimura Lock. Lesnar looks disappointed in the ring. Reigns poses on the ramp with Paul Heyman while fireworks go off as the show comes to an end.
