Happy New Year, Wrestleviewniverse, and welcome to the latest edition of Layin’ The SmarkDown! WWE gave us one last SmackDown for the year, and more importantly the last one on Syfy before the big move next week to USA Network! Let’s get on with it, shall we?
New Day Promo: When Spike Lee made the film “Do The Right Thing,” he was talking about opening the last SmackDown of 2015 with New Day. Okay, maybe not, but having these guys come out to start the show was definitely a good move. It’s been said on a couple occasions (most recently by fellow WV recapper Mike Tedesco) that New Day has completely turned things around in the past year. Let us not forget that a year ago, WWE sprung this group on us as a bunch of babyfaces and a majority of us just weren’t having it. I mean, I kinda enjoyed the act, but I could see where others had issues with it. Still, what we got over the course of the year was a nice 180 degree change, and to be honest, I can’t help but compare this to the evolution of The Rock as far as fan reaction and character growth. This promo was a perfect example of just how great the New Day have been this year.
Six Man Tag: Fun match from all involved. Dudleys and Kalisto made for an interesting combination considering the different styles. Post-match was a fun little moment for the crowd, I’m sure.
Breeze/Goldust: Good little match, but this whole “amicable split” thing is dumb. Like, DUMB. Remember when a little while ago, when I said MexAmerica was dumb? This tops that. However, there ARE some sliver linings in this cloud:
– This wasn’t “OMG YOU’RE THE WORST” breakup #2351;
– If we get better angles for Breeze and Summer, all the better.
Bo Dallas Segment: Bo Dallas has had a rough year, but stuff like “Boo Dallas” and now this have kept me entertained. And all I had to do was BOlieve. Also, here’s to getting more Curtis Axel in 2016.
Usos/Wyatts: About as good a match as you could expect from these guys, and that’s not a bad thing. I’m about this close to calling Braun’s finisher the Strowpocalypse, because at least I have the sense to give a finisher a name. (glares at WWE Creative)
Divas Tag Match: Well this was a match, wasn’t it? It sure was a match. Decent match, at that. #GiveActualWrestlingInDivasMatchesAChance
Dallas/Ziggler: Good, good match here. Bo still being entertaining in the ring, and Ziggler doing everything to earn the “Showoff” moniker per usual.
Main Event: Good match from all involved. Quite enjoyed the action here, I think it told a great story of Reigns and Ambrose getting one over on their current rivals. All in all, a good way to wrap up the year and SmackDown’s run on Syfy.
Well, that’s the show. What did you think of it? Did you enjoy SmackDown’s run on Syfy? What were your favorite moments from 2015? Party on, dudes!
