4/17 Impact: A wild night of action!

Talk about a wild night of action! That is the most simple way I can describe the “Tag Team Gold” episode of Impact. These “themed” episodes of Impact have very quickly became my favorite things going on in TNA right now, and that continues next week with the “TKO” event that I can’t wait to see.

The Tag Tournament was action packed with a lot of great wrestling. The four UX qualifying matches were solid matches with everybody working hard. Of the losing teams Rios and Tigre Uno impressed me the most. I was surprised by some of their double team work and Rios got a lot more offense than I figured he would. That is a tag team that I’d like to see more of though I think Rios needs a better name especially if he is going to be a masked luchador.

Hardyz/Revolution and Dirty Heels/Bro-Mans were the best qualifying matches in my opinion especially Dirty Heels/Bro-Mans. They told a really good story in that one, simple but good, with Bro-Mans arguing constantly. Dirty Heels used to do the mind game thing with other teams when they were a team before so it was cool to see them go back to that and they were as crisp as every with their double team offense. It will be interesting to see what happens with Bro-Mans going forward. It was really cool seeing how excited the Hardyz seemed to be in this tournament. They look like they are just having fun these days and that always translates to better matches when the guys are having a good time.

The brawl between Homicide and Angle was entertaining but I don’t really care much for the “real EY” thing they are doing with Angle and EY. I like EY’s crazy gimmick so I don’t see any point in teasing the goofy EY coming back and I would honestly much rather see him feud with a few more guys in the midcard to elevate someone else as well as allow EY to further grow his new character.

I liked that they gave some build for the Knockouts show and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they are going to do with that. The Dollhouse (Indy wrestlers Mia Yim and Marti Belle) are going to debut and we will get to see what they will be bringing to the table. I like Mia Yim but I haven’t seen much of Belle.

The Ultimate X was really great with an absolute ton of fast paced action. If you blinked you may have missed something. It won’t be for everyone because it was honestly just a spot fest but most Ultimate X Matches are and I have no problem with that because a spotfest can be just as entertaining as a technical masterpiece in my opinion. They did some big bumps and everyone busted their asses in that match. It was great to see the Hardyz get those titles and I really want to see them feud with Dirty Heels but I don’t know if they are going to be willing to do a babyface-babyface feud especially coming off just doing that with Angle-Lashley. Right now would be a perfect time for TNA to bring in a former team like Bad Influence, The Young Bucks, or Motor City Machine Guns to add some more depth to the tag teams. The Hardyz, Dirty Heels, and the BDC are a nice base to the tag division but they need to add some more meat to the teams.

– Segment/Promo of the Night: Homicide/Angle brawl
– Match of the Night: Ultimate X (****)
– Overall Grade: A-

Until next week… PEACE!
