TNA Lockdown 2014 Preview
March 9, 2014
By: Josh Boutwell of Wrestleview.com
TNA Wrestling heads to Miami, FL for the 10th Lockdown event ever tonight and this year things are going back to the all Steel Cage Match format! Last year TNA changed the Lockdown format for the first time and just did a couple of Cage Matches instead of every match, but this year things are going back to the way they should for the most unique wrestling PPV going and the one I look forward to every year even more so than WrestleMania, Royal Rumble or Bound for Glory.
-Samuel Shaw vs. Mr. Anderson (Steel Cage Match)
Ever since the former Sam Shaw returned to television under the new Samuel Shaw moniker he has showed a change in personality unlike many character changes in the past few years in wrestling. The “creepy bastard” has been obsessed with TNA ring announcer Christy Hemme which led to him attacking Mr. Anderson as Anderson was talking to Hemme backstage. Mr. Anderson didn’t take too kindly to the attack and challenge Shaw to a Steel Cage Match before Shaw choked Anderson out on national TV.
-Tigre Uno vs. Manik
The high flying luchador Tigre Uno, formerly Extreme Tiger of AAA, will officially make his TNA debut inside a Steel Cage against former X-Division Champion Manik! Manik is no stranger to Lucha Libre having competed many times in the past in Mexico which should provide for an entertaining, high flying bout between two young X-Division stars! Tigre was trained in Mexico by the legendary Rey Misterio Sr., uncle of Rey Misterio Jr., who has trained some of the best lucahdors of the past 20 years including Konnan, Psicosis, Halloween, Damian 666, Hayabusa, Rey Misterio Jr., and others! Interestingly enough Manik was trained in lucha by the legendary Negro Casas who originally began his career as a trainer when he opened a school with Rey Misterio in the 80’s.
-Great Muta, Senada, & Nakanoue vs. Bad Influence & Chris Sabin (Steel Cage Match)
The legendary Japanese star Great Muta hasn’t competed in many Steel Cages in his career and even less here in America but at Lockdown the legend will step inside the Steel Cage to team with his Japanese protégés Seiya Senada and Nakanoue to face off against the talented trio of Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Kazarian) and Chris Sabin. Senada pinned Austin Aries to win the TNA X-Division Championship this past weekend at TNA’s joint event in Japan with Wrestle-1 starting his journey to TNA officially. Bad Influence will try to spoil Muta’s rare American appearance and TNA debuts of Senada and Nakanoue as they come into Lockdown in a bad mood having lost their chance of being on Team Dixie in Lethal Lockdown while Sabin is coming in down off of his public breakup with the beautiful Velvet Sky.
-TNA Knockouts Title: Madison Rayne (c) vs. Gail Kim (Steel Cage Match)
Madison Rayne and Gail Kim have had a longstanding rivalry that has included a violent Street Fight and will now involve the unforgiving Steel Cage. These two former “besties” will look to end their rivalry at Lockdown and crown the top Knockout in TNA as the company looks to shake things up with new Knockouts coming into TNA as the year goes on.
-James Storm vs. Gunner (Steel Cage Match)
The former TNA Tag Team Champions saw their team go up in flames when James Storm Superkicked Gunner’s World Title chances away on Impact a couple of weeks ago. The Marine vet Gunner has taken many of the things Storm has not only done but said about him to heart and this rivalry will be taken to the next level inside the cage!
-Lethal Lockdown: Team Dixie [Bobby Roode, Jesse, Robbie E, & Austin Aries] vs. Team MVP [MVP, Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, & Jeff Hardy] (Steel Cage Match)
Dixie Carter and MVP have been struggling over power of TNA’s “wrestling operations” since MVP was introduced as the mystery investor in TNA, and now that power struggle is taken to the next level in Lethal Lockdown. If Dixie Carter’s team wins then she wins full control Impact and if MVP wins he wins the control of the wrestling aspects of the company as well. Dixie’s team captain Bobby Roode has extra motivation with the fact that Dixie Carter will give him 10% of her ownership of TNA if he leads Team Dixie to victory. Joining Bobby Roode is the former TNA Tag Team Champions The Bro-Mans who defeated Bad Influence and The Wolves in a Triple Threat to earn a spot and the X-Division Champion Austin Aries who chose his former tag partner Bobby Roode over MVP when MVP and Roode both offered spots on their Lethal Lockdown teams to him. Joining MVP is the TNA Tag Team Champions The Wolves and the returning Jeff Hardy! We haven’t seen Hardy since his World Title loss to Magnus earlier this year and he quit the company, but now MVP has convinced the “Charismatic Enigma” to return to help him win control of TNA away from Dixie.
-TNA World Title: Magnus (c) vs. Samoa Joe (Steel Cage Match, only way to win is submission or KO)
Magnus has relied on help from many stars like EC3, Rockstar Spud, Bobby Roode, and others to help him in his “Magnus Rules” style matches of no holds barred, but now inside the Steel Cage it is “Joe Rules” and he will be all alone with the “Samoan Submission Machine!” Joe has been a tear in 2014 running through everyone put in front of him and the only way to win this match will be submission or knockout making things play right into Samoa Joe’s hands. The last time he competed for the World Title at Lockdown was in 2008 when he defeated Kurt Angle for his only TNA World Title win.
