Sin Cara Debuts with AAA
Wrestling Observer confirmed before this weekend that Sin Cara was set to debut for AAA on Friday which is something that had been rumored for over a month, but the Observer also claimed he would be the surprise wrestler in the Rey de Reyes Tournament match which was not the case. Sin Cara’s old rival Black Warrior was actually the surprise in that match as he re-joined Perros del Mal. Sin Cara made his “appearance” at the end of the night when his music played and then the lights went out. The lights came back on and he appeared in the ring, but then the lights went back out and he was gone again. It is a bit of a bizarre way to bring Sin Cara/Mistico into the company to say the least, and AAA hasn’t even confirmed that it was in fact Sin Cara just saying the luchador was a mystery.
AAA Works Out Deal With Mexico City Arena
This week AAA held a joint press conference with the Mexico City Sports Department to announce a deal that they had signed to run 12 events at Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera in 2014 as well as Lucha Classes in the arena. This is an interesting development because AAA usually runs less than 5 events inside Mexico City (with a few outside the city) a year because Mexico City is seen as CMLL territory. AAA will be running 12 events in that arena alone not to mention all of the other shows (likely 2-4) in the city as well.
Various AAA News
Along with confirming the news of Sin Cara, Wrestling Observer stated that AAA was trying hard to get Blue Demon Jr. to sign a contract with the promotion. Right now he is primarily working just major events on a per show agreement. He doesn’t want to sign a contract because he is still making good money on the independents as well as working for AAA. The Observer says Mesias’ shoulder injury is going to keep him out for at least another month likely knocking him out of Rey de Reyes. Also, AAA is trying is concerned about the physique of many of the luchadors as they get set for American TV, and said they would be prohibiting luchadors from wearing t-shirts in the ring by the spring.

CMLL
Sombra Punished
The Wrestling Observer reported this week that CMLL’s La Sombra was punished for appearing on Sin Cara’s return show earlier this month by being taken off of several shows following that event. According to the Observer CMLL warned all of its talent to have nothing to do with that event or Sin Cara in general to the point they had been warned not to even go to the show as a fan. Sombra didn’t care and did the show out of loyalty to Sin Cara for helping him earlier in his career and he knows that there is no way CMLL would fire him right now for something like that as popular as he is. Sin Cara has also claimed that both Rush and La Mascara agreed to appear on the show originally but backed out after CMLL’s threats.

Extreme Tiger Signs with TNA
PWInsider revealed this week that former AAA star Extreme Tiger has signed with TNA Wrestling in America. Tiger worked a pair of matches for TNA in December under the Ultimate Tiger name which he is likely to work under in TNA going forward.
El Hijo del Santo Retiring?
This week SuperLuchas broke the news that a source claims El Hijo del Santo’s neck is worse than previously thought and that he will need surgery that would end his in-ring career. The report claims that Santo is going to rest for 6 months and then return at the end of the year for a retirement tour before getting the surgery and then retiring. The report claims that after retirement Santo plans to manage the career of his son and open a wrestling school. Santo has yet to address the report so for now it’s still considered a rumor.
Dragon Gate Tryout in Mexico
This week Dragon Gate star CIMA has announced that he will be holding a tryout for Dragon Gate in Mexico City at Gimnasio Hercules on 02/26. The fee for the tryout is only 100 pesos (which is about $8 American).
Box y Lucha Changing Format
This past weekend Lucha magazine Box y Lucha Mag announced that they were changing to a bi-weekly format rather than the traditionally weekly format they have been doing since its inception. At one point Mexico had three weekly Lucha magazines but to show how bad things have gotten two of those (Box y Lucha and Super Luchas) have switched to bi-weekly while Luchas 2000 is the only weekly magazine left at that format. Super Luchas even closed down completely for awhile in 2013.
Lucha Event at ECW Arena
Masked Republic and Extreme Rising have announced a lucha libre event in Philadelphia’s famed ECW Arena on April 27th will be taking place headlined by Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. L.A. Park! The second bout signed was a trios pitting the CHIKARA trio of the Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian) and Green Ant against Chuck Taylor, Papadon, & Orange Cassidy. Sabu, Damian 666, Bestia 666, Negro Navarro, Solar I, Cassandro, Christina Von Eerie, and Pierrothito have also been confirmed for the event, and I would bet that Hijo de Rey Misterio II and Dr. Wagner III will likely be on the card as well if they aren’t booked elsewhere on that day.

5) Eterno, Fuerza Guerrera, & Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000 def. Mascara Purpura, Relampago, & Super Nova
* NOTES *
– The Cibernetico was a rematch from last week’s match of the same kind; it also ended in a DQ like last week. It came down to Fulgor from FILL and Kanon from Skayde Gym. Fulgor twisted Kanon’s mask so he couldn’t see and then Kanon wildly kicked the referee in the balls causing him to get DQ’d and Team FILL to lose. Team Skayde refused to win the Trophy that way, like last week, and then a match pitting four FILL students teamed with their maestro Black Terry against Skayde and four of his students in another rematch was proposed.
