Blue Demon Coming to AAA, Possible UFC Fighter
In some pretty surprising and big news this weekend, AAA announced that Blue Demon Jr. would be returning to AAA for “Rey de Reyes” to challenge Texano Jr. for the AAA Heavyweight Title! Demon hasn’t been in AAA in about a decade and this will easily be the highest profile match of Texano’s career. Also, the Wrestling Observer reported this week that AAA is in talks with UFC’s Erik Perez to make an appearance at “Rey de Reyes,” possibly walking Octagon out to the ring.

TripleMania Date Announced
This week AAA announced that TripleMania XXI will take place on June 16 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City.

– Afterward both Pentagon & Aerostar were taken to the hospital due to injuries.
– This was Crazy Boy’s first AAA appearance in well over a year and his return to the ring from the knee injury. He was the mystery person in the 2nd Elimination Match and Super Fly replaced Ricky Marvin (who was in Germany):

– Crazy Boy tells the referee that he’s #1:

– The South African Luchador wows the crowd:

– Angelico introduces his feet to Crazy’s back!:

– Crazy Boy gets a huge win in his return:

– The huge Uro Rocker distracted the clowns to help his buddies get the win and the Inferno Rockers challenged the clowns to put up their Trios Titles at Rey de Reyes.
– After the show AAA announced LuFisto vs. Fabi Apache vs. Mari Apache vs. Taya Valkyrie in an Elimination Match for the Reina de Reinas Title at Rey de Reyes, and also Fenix vs. Daga vs. Juventud Guerrera vs. Crazy Boy in the finals of the Fusion Title Tournament.

– Juvi reunited the original Mexican Powers with Lider & the returning Crazy Boy. Lider pinned Daga clean for the win but after the PdM stapled all the Mexican Powers members:

– Daga asks Lider what the five fingers say to the face:

– Psycho Circus retained their belts but after the match El Consejo beat them down until Blue Demon ran out for the save:

LUCHA SPOTLIGHT
THE YOUTH MOVEMENT

Some of the most exciting luchadors in Mexico are also some of the youngest. I decided to compile a list of the top (in my opinion) young up and coming luchadors the great sport of Lucha Libre has to offer.

15) Dr. Wagner III aka Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.
It was almost unfair of me to include the youngest of the Wagner bunch on this list because of very little I’ve actually seen of him. Unlike Hijo de L.A. Park he didn’t have to hang around the undercard for awhile before being put in the spotlight. Wagner III immediately started tagging with his father on the independents and usually faced off against L.A. Park and his son Hijo de L.A. Park in tag matches. He and Hijo de L.A. Park seem to be forming a bit of a rivalry early on their careers. He was trained by his mother (Rossy Moreno) and his aunt & uncle El Oriental & Esther Moreno along with his father. He also is part of a massive Lucha Family Tree that includes his grandfather Dr. Wagner Sr., father Dr. Wagner Jr., mother Rossy Moreno, several uncles (Silver King, El Oriental, Mini Cibernetico, Groon XXX, & Extasis), aunts (Alda Moreno, Esther Moreno, & Cynthia Moreno), and his grandfather Alfonso Moreno. So the pedigree is definitely there along with the potential but getting out on his own, away from his father’s shadow, is going to be a big move for him if he can do it.

14) Zeuxis – CMLL – 22 years old
The young ruda was trained by Negro Navarro, Satanico, Alimana, and Huracan Ramirez and has formed a successful tag team with La Comandante over the past few years. She seems to continue to get better as time goes on and with her getting more exposure in places like Japan she could become one of the top luchadoras in CMLL in the future.

13) Mistico II – CMLL – 21 years old
Mistico was originally trained by his father Toro Blanco, Rush (his brother), and uncles Franco Columbo & Pitbull before debuting under the Dragon Lee mask in 2010. Under that name he struggled and made as many bothces in the ring as he did spectacular moves. After appearances on the popular reality TV show “El Luchador” he was then given the “Mistico” name replacing the legendary original who moved onto WWE. This was a massive controversy in lucha as many fans were disappointed by Dragon Lee being given this honor because of his inconsistencies. Under the Mistico II name he has been just as inconsistent and continues to fight injury after injury (allot of time due to blown spots). Still he has the backing of CMLL and obvious potential if he can just get more consistent going forward.

12) Titan – CMLL – 22 years old
This 22 year old luchador was trained by Satanico and has been paired with Triton for the majority of his young career thus far. The two formed a trio with Shocker and had a decent feud with Reyes del Atlantida before Shocker got into some personal problems. After that initial surge for Titan and he Triton went on a long losing streak that CMLL started to turn into a storyline, but then abandoned soon after. The two remain strong luchadors in the undercard but need something more to bump them up another level, and with Titan’s young age he should have plenty of time to succeed at this.

11) Hombre Bala Jr. – CMLL – 21 years old
After initially training with his father, the younger son of Hombre Bala then joined CMLL’s training school and was trained by Talisman, Arkangel de la Muerte, & Shocker. His career suffered a big setback before he could make his debut in CMLL as he suffered a severe broken leg in a motorcycle accident. He finally debuted in 2011 as a part of the Generacion 2011 graduating class along with Magnus, Dragon Lee (Mistico II), Enrique Vera Jr., Super Halcon Jr., Hijo del Signo, & Bobby Zavala. Bala began teaming with Generacion 2011 member Super Halcon Jr. in a feud against Los Rayos Tapatio which led to the youngsters taking the masks of the veteran Rayos Tapatios in early 2012 marking their first major win. Bala continues to team with fellow Generacion 2011 members and though he may not have received the push from CMLL that fellow graduate Dragon Lee (now Mistico II) has, Hombre Bala Jr. has been much more consistent thus far in the ring.

10) Eita – INDY – 21 years old
This 21 year old Japanese star only debuted in 2011 as a part of Dragon Gate, and has been wrestling in Mexico since May of 2012. Eita was trained by Dragon Gate’s famed Dragon Gate Dojo and in 2012 he won the King of the Chop Tournament which also featured young Dragon Gate stars and several very established ones included Shingo Takagi, Akira Tozawa, Cyber Kong (who Eita defeated in the Semifinals), Naruki Doi, Rich Swann, & others. Right after this Eita moved to Mexico to begin trained in Lucha as well as wrestling across the country. Eita has been a mainstay for IWRG ever since. He’s also been a regular for DTU, IWL, and Perros del Mal along with even appearing for AAA. The former MMA fighter has been able to adapt well to Lucha Libre and his blending of MMA moves and high flying has made him very unique thus far. It’s obvious that the Japanese star will eventually head back to Dragon Gate in Japan but if he chose to stay in Mexico he could very well end up with a spot on either AAA or CMLL’s rosters.

09) Rush – CMLL – 24 years old
The older brother of Mistico II (still only 24 years old), Rush has become a top star in CMLL holding both of the CMLL World Light Heavyweight & CMLL World Trios Titles at different times. Rush has started to mix in Perro Aguayo like brawling into some of his more flashy moves and obviously has the trust of the promotion to continue on as a top star in Mexico, but injuries and a strong dislike by a certain portion of the fans has slowed him. With the rudo like brawling at times it seems that a rudo turn could really push Rush forward in the future.

08) Hijo de L.A. Park/Black Spirit – INDY – 24 years old
The son of the legendary original La Parka (L.A. Park) has had a much different path in lucha than Dr. Wagner Jr.’s son as he started out under a different name, on the undercards of events, and with his father denying their relation. He was trained by Skayde, Pierko el Boricua, L.A. Park, Tony Salazar, & El Oriental before debuting as “Black Spirit” in 2008. He wore a mask and gear that did look very similar to L.A. Park’s (with some differences) but both of them denied their being any relation (though fans expected otherwise). Black Spirit started wrestling on the undercards of events (most of which L.A. Park was also working) against fellow Skyde students Turbo, Black Thunder, Skyde Jr., and even Skyde himself which only helped as he was working with some of the better high flyers in wrestling (as well as the legendary Skyde). In early 2010 L.A. Park and his son revealed that Black Spirit was, in fact, the son of L.A. Park and thus he began using the name Hijo de L.A. Park. At this point Hijo de L.A. Park began working further up the card, even in some main events teaming with his father. Hijo de L.A. Park has teamed with Dr. Wagner III at times but has also had some pretty bloody battles with him as well, as he has started adding some brawling (from his father’s influence) to his impressive high flying. He and the Traumas have also had some impressive matches over the last year, even some bloody ones. Oddly, in early 2013 Hijo de L.A. Park changed his name back to Black Spirit (though some still call him Hijo de L.A. Park) because he said he wanted to make a name for himself on his own merits rather than his father’s name. He is much skinnier than his father ever was (about 158 lbs.) but also about his height at 6’0″ making him rather lanky. He’s also become a much better high flyer than his father was thus far along with adding some solid mat wrestling like his dad and even some brawling. The sky is the limit for Black Spirit and the fact that his dad made him wrestler on the undercard for awhile before even admitting their relationship will only benefit him.

07) Bestia 666 – INDY – 23 years old
Much like Hijo de L.A. Park, Bestia 666 started out under a different name with no mention of his relationship to his father Damian 666. Bestia began wrestling under a mask, as Leo working the undercard for the majority of his first year. Then in 2010 he changed his name to Bestia 666 and instead of a mask wore face paint much like his father does. Because of this Bestia has shot up the cards everywhere because of this and has even appeared for AAA at times. Over the last two years he’s also made more appearances in America working for the Urban Wrestling Federation in 2011 and then becoming a stable part of Shane Douglas’ ECW resurrection (or attempt) Extreme Rising where he has begun a feud with Hijo de Rey Misterio II. Bestia is smaller than his father and is a much better high flyer than his father ever was as well, but also incorporates the hardcore style his father primarily uses now as well.

06) Dinastia – AAA – 18 years old
The diminutive and extremely young Dinastia has been wrestling since 2009 when he was only 14 years old and started training when he was only 12! He was trained by his cousin Super Crazy and Rey Cuervo. Pesadilla & Crazy Boy are also cousins of Dinastia. The exciting high flyer wrestled for various indy promotions before winning AAA’s Reality Show in 2011 to earn his first contract with a major promotion. Dinastia (though not actually a midget) began wrestling in AAA’s Minis Division and has been dropping jaws and wowing fans ever since he started. Dinastia won the AAA Minis Championship earlier this year and will likely only get better as he gets older. One thing he won’t be able to improve is his height/size, but that didn’t stop Rey Misterio Jr. either, and could very well be the path that Dinastia goes on.

05) Daga – AAA – 24 years old
Daga won the same Reality Show that Dinastia did to earn a AAA contract but before that he was trained by a trio of legends in Black Terry, Negro Navarro, and Ringo Mendoza. In 2009 and 2010 Daga started to make a name for himself on indy shows in Mexico City, really getting noticed on IWL events where he won the IWL Internet Title and IWL International Juniors Title. After debuting with AAA he quickly started to get noticed with his style of blending Japanese strong style and high flying eventually joining the Perros del Mal group and winning the AAA Cruiserweight Championship (which he still holds). Daga is one of the few unmasked high flyers in AAA and seems to be far from as good as he will eventually be.

04) Puma King – CMLL – 22 years old
Part of the great Casas Family Tree, Puma King may actually turn out to be one of the best of the clan. His grandfather is Pepe Casas and his father is Felino. His uncles are Negro Casas, Heavy Metal, and his aunt is Dalis la Caribena. Princesa Blanca is also his step-mother. He and his older brother Tiger Kid formed a pretty good tag team over the past few years but it was the younger Puma King who broke out in 2012 with his awesome feud with Rey Cometa that led to a stellar Mask vs. Mask Match with Puma taking the veteran’s mask. One interesting aspect of Puma (and Tiger’s) early careers was that they and their father kept the fact that he was their father a secret (to try and make them succeed on their own merits rather than their families name) before finally revealing it to the lucha world when they had started making names for themselves in CMLL. Despite all of his success, thus far Puma King hasn’t won a championship in CMLL just yet.

03) Fenix – AAA – 22 years old
Fenix burst onto the major scene in 2011 as a new AAA tecnico Fenix opposite his brother Dark Dragon wowing the fans with his athleticism and high spots. Fenix is considered one of the top rising stars in AAA and with it looking like he will start making appearances in America in 2013 as well the sky is the limit for this youngster. Fenix was trained by two of the very best in lucha in Skayde and Gran Apache. Some of the best matches from AAA in 2011 & 2012 involved Fenix and his older brother Dark Dragon.

02) Mascara Dorada – CMLL – 24 years old
There may not be a more athletic luchador in the entire world than CMLL’s high flying phenom Mascara Dorada. Dorada was trained by his father Gitano & CMLL’s head trainer Satanico and then he started as Gitano Jr. before being given the gimmick of Metalik by CMLL. As Metalik he dazzled fans with his incredible high spots but was inconsistent and often botched moves. Then, CMLL changed his name to Mascara Dorada a “large” version of the popular and amazing Mascarita Dorada. As Dorada he continued to amaze fans and other luchadors with his athleticism and high flying moves but he was also getting considerably better by working with veterans like Averno, Negro Casas, Mephisto, Atlantis, Mistico, and others. Dorada quickly soared up the ranks in CMLL and became one of the more popular stars in the promotion. He continues to get better and is expected to remain one of the top stars in Mexico.

01) La Sombra – CMLL – 23 years old
Easily the #1 wrestler on this list, La Sombra is barely 23 years old yet is already one of the top luchadors in all of Mexico. The current NWA Middleweight Champion isn’t just one of the top luchadors in Mexico in name but he’s also one of the best all around wrestlers in the sport as well as one of the top high flyers. Sombra was trained by a group of legends which included his uncle Moro III, his father Brillante, Satanico, Stuka Sr., and current CMLL booker Franco Colombo. That along with his massive lucha family true (the Moro Family) makes his pedigree in Lucha Libre second to none. Sombra has had some of the best feuds in Lucha over the last few years which included classic battles with the likes of La Mascara, Volador Jr., Mistico, and Averno among others, and he has held a slew of Championships including the CMLL World Tag Team, Trios, and Universal Championships. He’s also won several tournaments (2007 Torneo Gran Alternativa (with Mistico), 2011 Universal Champions Tournament, 2012 La Copa Juniors Tournament, & 2013 Reyes del Aire Tournament) and Awards (CMLL Trios of the Year (with La Mascara & Mascara Dorada), CMLL Tag Team of the Year (with Volador Jr.), and CMLL Tecnico of the Year (2010), among others). The scary thing about Sombra is that he can still be even better, and will likely only get better.
