Top AEW star makes surprise appearance at Saturday’s GCW event

AEW star and current ROH World Champion Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at the GCW Highest in the Room 3 event, which took place on Saturday night at the Ukrainian Culture Center in Los Angeles, CA – attacking Matt Cardona and Effy during their match.

After a low blow, Cardona was about to hit Effy with a belt, when a disguised man came to the ring and hit Cardona with a bat, giving Effy to drop Cardona with the rough rider for the win. Effy was confused who the mystery man was, as Jericho then unmasked to reveal himself. Jericho then hit Effy with a Judas Effect. Jericho also took off his sweatshirt to reveal he was wearing an AEW t-shirt. He then hit Cardona and Effy with the bat again, before leaving to boos from the crowd.

Effy recently made comments on a podcast a few weeks back about Tony Khan and his father, which led to Ricky Starks and Willie Mack, most recently being pulled from GCW events.

AEW, ROH and GCW will be holding events at the Hammerstein Ballroom. ROH Final Battle will take place on Friday, December 20 from the venue. AEW Collision will air live from the Ballroom on Saturday, December 21, with a Dynamite taping on Sunday, December 22 that will air on Christmas Day. GCW will hold their event on January 19, 2025 at the venue. GCW booker Brett Lauderdale had taken issue with AEW running events at the Ballroom, saying it would hurt GCW business.
