During an interview with The Orlando Sentinel, Tony Khan responded to a remark made by Paul “Triple H” Levesque in the WWE documentary American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes.
Levesque had remarked on Rhodes taking a chance by returning to WWE, stating:
“It’s taking that gamble again and saying, ‘I didn’t grow up dreaming of being the champion or the face of a secondary promotion. I wanted to be the WWE champion.’”
Khan’s response to this referred to the strength of the AEW brand in the United Kingdom, with All In on the horizon:
“We certainly won’t be the secondary promotion at All In. We’re No. 1 in the UK, on TV and with a record gate. I have a lot of respect for Cody. I know these weren’t his words, to be fair, but we’re not secondary in a lot of markets — for the first time in a long time, WWE has been secondary in a lot of markets. … I’m proud of where we’re at and we’re not taking a back seat to anybody.”
AEW All In, which has sold over 70,000 tickets with a total distribution of nearly 77,000 according to Dave Meltzer, emanates from Wembley Stadium in London, England, on Sunday, August 27.
