WWE.com just issued a statement confirming the passing of WWE Hall of Famer Mr. Fuji (Harry Fujiwara) on Sunday morning. Fujiwara was 82 years old.
Fujiwara made his pro wrestling debut back in 1965 working for the NWA’s Pacific Northwest Wrestling territory and held varoius NWA championships for territories in Hawaii, Pacific Northwest, Southeastern, New Zealand, Mid Atlantic and Toronto from 1965 through 1981.
He also spent time in his career with other promotions holding titles for the IWA (Australia), WWWF, AWA, WWC and later in the early 1980s with the WWF/WWE becoming a five-time WWE World Tag Team Champion before retiring in the mid-1980s.
Fujiwara became even more well known under his Mr. Fuji character working as a manager for a variety of pro wrestling stars including George “The Animal” Steele, Kamala, Killer Khan, Demolition, The Powers of Pain, Yokozuna and Don Muraco.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2007.
