“Then. Now. Forever.” The WWE video leads us into the show.
The RAW video plays, and we’re brought into the arena to see a big pyrotechnics display. The Usos will face Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows tonight.
AJ Styles’ music hits, and the not released Lilian Garcia introduces him to the ring. A replay is shown of last week’s stalemate between AJ Styles and Roman Reigns with a steel chair. The crowd chants, “AJ Styles.” Styles says he wants to set the record straight because he is tired of Roman Reigns calling him a liar. It’s not just Reigns. He’s heard it everywhere. People seem to think that his friendship with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows was some kind of master plan he thought of so he could become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Styles then has some tweets shown of people talking about him with The Club. Styles says this may be the New Era of WWE, but this isn’t new to him. He’s headlined the Tokyo Dome in front of 60,000 people. He’s been a champion all over the world. For those in the WWE Universe that don’t know him, they don’t call him “Phenomenal” for nothing.
Roman Reigns’ music hits, and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion makes his way out to the stage to massive boos. Reigns gets in the ring and looks at his opponent at Extreme Rules. Reigns says Styles has headlined all over the world and won championship after championship after championship, but none of that matters unless you’re winning THE championship. A “We want Rollins” chant breaks out. Reigns says you’re not getting Rollins. You’re getting AJ Styles and Roman Reigns in the main event. Styles is phenomenal at lying. He’ll be in The Usos’ corner tonight. Is he going to be in The Club’s corner? Styles says he will be. He’ll be wherever Reigns is until he gets that title. Reigns begins to speak, but Styles cuts him off and says everyone knows he’s THE guy… that he’s going to beat at Extreme Rules this Sunday. Reigns asks if Styles really thinks this is a wrestling match. This is the big time. It’s Extreme Rules. If he wants to put Styles through a table or the barricade, he will. If he wants to take a steel chair and beat him within an inch of his life, he will. It means he’ll beat Styles’ ass at Extreme Rules. Styles can’t beat him one-on-one, so The Club will be out there. That means Anderson and Gallows will be out there. The Usos will be with him as well. Then the three of them will figure out the hard way that The Bloodline is stronger than The Club. Styles says we’ll find out this Sunday.
Anderson and Gallows’ music hits, and they make their way to ringside. They then notice The Usos standing behind Reigns. Styles runs into a right hand and falls out of the ring. Anderson and Gallows hold Styles back. The crowd boos as Reigns holds the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the air.
Dean Ambrose will call out Chris Jericho later tonight. We’ll also see Charlotte and Natalya have a contract signing for their match at Extreme Rules. Coming up next, we’ll see Sami Zayn take on Cesaro.
The Miz’ music hits, and the WWE Intercontinental Champion makes his way to the ring with his wife, Maryse. He’ll be on commentary for the next match.

Shane McMahon’s music hits, and he comes out to a massive pop. Shane says the four of them will compete on Sunday (he’s interrupted by a “Shane O’Mac” chant), but tonight, right here in Greensboro, North Carolina, they’ll fight in a tag team match. Owens will team with The Miz to take on Cesaro and Sami Zayn. Owens screams that Miz is the worst one. Stephanie McMahon’s music hits, and she comes out to the stage to stand alongside her brother. Shane asks if she doesn’t think he could handle this. Stephanie says given what happened on Smackdown, the better teams would be Miz teaming with Cesaro against Owens and Zayn. Shane says that is better. A “YES” chant breaks out. Stephanie says if Owens walks off on Zayn, then he can bother not showing up on Sunday. Maybe this match will rekindle their friendship. Shane says that match will start right now.

Renee Young knocks on Chris Jericho’s door, and he comes outside. She asks if he has any idea what Dean Ambrose is going to say later tonight. Jericho says he’s going to apologize for destroying his $15,000 jacket. That jacket is more iconic in WWE than André the Giant. It should be in the Smithsonian. Jericho should have him arrested in this dump, but he won’t do that. Jericho will give him a chance to apologize. If he doesn’t, he’ll be very sorry. Jericho then tells her to hit the bricks.

Shane McMahon is talking to Dean Ambrose backstage. Ambrose will be out, next.
-Commercial Break-
John Cena returns to RAW in two weeks.
Dean Ambrose makes his way to the ring to a nice reception. Footage is shown of Chris Jericho hitting Ambrose over the head with Mitch the Potted Plant two weeks ago. Last week, Ambrose destroyed Jericho’s jacket. This past Thursday on Smackdown, Jericho put Ambrose in a straitjacket. Ambrose soaks in the great reception from the crowd. They chant his name. Ambrose says from the moment he got here, people have questioned his decision-making skills and stability. He’s never agreed with that assessment, but last week on Smackdown when Jericho put him in that straitjacket, he felt like he was in jail or an asylum. He didn’t like it at all. Ambrose felt something snap and felt there is something he needs to do. Ambrose calls Jericho out.
Chris Jericho’s music hits, and he angrily comes out to the stage. The crowd boos him. Jericho tells Ambrose to shut his mouth and listen. Jericho says he’s not interested in talking to him. He’s going to tell Ambrose what to say, and he’s going to give him an apology. Ambrose is going to apologize for destroying his $15,000 piece of property. Jericho says he’s got a ton of cash and is a multimillionaire, but $15,000 is a lot of money, and he wants it back. Ambrose destroyed an important piece of his legacy and a huge part of WWE history. Not only does Ambrose owe him $15,000, he owes him an apology. Jericho demands it right now. Jericho tells the crowd to be quiet, but they rebel.
Ambrose says he’s not going to apologize. Ambrose called him out here to challenge him to a match at Extreme Rules. Jericho thinks about it and says it’s just as he suspected. Jericho calls him a “stupid idiot” and says he’ll take $15,000 out of his ass. If Ambrose wants a match, he’s got a match. Ambrose asks if he’s sure because this is Extreme Rules. Who knows how extreme it’ll get? These days, he’s not sure Jericho is up for that. Jericho laughs and says unlike the slobbering sycophants in this hellhole tonight, he can see right through him. They call Ambrose a lunatic, but he really is one. It’s not a catchphrase or nickname – it’s the truth. No one in the company is crazier than Jericho. Jericho has faced every scary madman, giant, athlete, and street fighter in the WWE and beaten them all. He’s a six-time World Champion and the best in the world at what he does. Jericho asks if he understands what he’s saying to him. Jericho isn’t scared of Ambrose, but he is scared for him. This Sunday, he’ll show Ambrose what a lunatic does with a smile on his face and not a tear in his eye. There will be no remorse. This Sunday, he’ll give Ambrose what he craves and what everyone craves: the gift of Jericho. Jericho tells him to drink it in before posing for the crowd.
Ambrose says he’s got a surprise for Jericho as well and looks up. A steel cage lowers with weapons hung around the top. Spooky music plays as it does. Ambrose says he’s bringing Jericho to the hospital. Ambrose says this is The Asylum Match. Surrounding the top are a barbed wire baseball bat, a straitjacket, a mop, a potted plant, and kendo stick. Ambrose says there is no escape. You can’t climb over the top or leave through the door. Jericho may be the best in the world at what he does, but when he enters his world, what he’ll do is scream, cry, and beg for mercy. When Jericho enters this asylum, he will never… ever be the same, again. Jericho looks flabbergasted and fearful.

Stephanie says they’re not just going to do that. Shane says they’re not giving them two guys at all. They’ll have to choose. It’s not a little guy. He’s a little bigger than that. He’s 7-foot tall and you can’t teach that. Shane says one of them will face Big Cass later tonight, and they need to decide who it will be.

Dolph Ziggler will face Baron Corbin in a No Disqualification match on the Extreme Rules Kickoff Show.
Shane and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring having some fun. Shane says this Sunday, we’ll have an Extreme Rules match to determine the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. We also have an Asylum Match where two bitter rivals will settle their grudge. The one match not talked about is the Submission Match for the WWE Women’s Championship. They are very proud to be presiding over it.
Ric Flair’s music interrupts Stephanie McMahon as she goes to introduce Charlotte. Flair says if you’re to introduce a Flair, you need to do it the proper way. Flair tells the crowd to stand up and show the proper respect for the apple of his eye and the envy of every guy, his daughter, the WWE Women’s Championship, Charlotte. Charlotte makes her way to the ring as Flair bows to her. They then walk down to the ring arm-in-arm. The North Carolina crowd loves Ric Flair and his daughter. Charlotte thanks her father for the introduction and asks where she has to sign.
Shane says her opponent is missing, so he introduces Natalya to the ring. Natalya thanks Shane and Stephanie before saying she has to get something off her chest. Charlotte used to be someone with integrity and a good person. Charlotte beat her at NXT to win her first championship. She did it on her own without her creepy father there. The crowd boos that. That is the Charlotte she wishes she could beat at NXT (or Extreme Rules), but she doesn’t think she exists. Shane then has Natalya sign the contract. Flair looks furious with her. Charlotte says that was really touching, but she’s delusional. These people are not here to cheer for her. These are her people, and the crowd gives her a nice ovation. They’re not going to cheer anything Natalya says or does. She could punch all their best friends in the face and they’d still cheer her. They worship the ground she walks on because she’s a goddess. Charlotte says you don’t boo at a Flair. The crowd starts to turn on her. Charlotte says they love her because her last name is Flair. Natalya is just Nattie. Charlotte gives out a “WOO!” Flair starts, but she tells her father to stop. Natalya is just a Hart that whines and complains. Natalya will tap at Extreme Rules. This is a waste of her time talking about how she’ll beat her on Sunday. She wants to sign the contract. Shane says he needs Charlotte to sign.
Charlotte goes to sign, but she stops and asks what this is. Flair asks what they’ve got going on. Shane says because of what happened last week, if Ric Flair comes out to the ring on Sunday, Charlotte will forfeit the title. Flair looks incredulous. Shane then has security come down to escort Flair out of the ring. Stephanie says this isn’t personal. It is just business. If they don’t sign the contract, then Charlotte will forfeit the Women’s Championship right here. Charlotte then signs the contract. Ric Flair signs after her. Flair says he tried to like Stephanie because of who her husband is, but the truth is she’s the worst businessperson of all time. Shane says he knows that’s his sister, but that’s no way to treat a woman. Flair goes off on Shane and challenges him to a fight. Flair takes off his jacket and Rolex before trying to square off with Shane. Shane tries to reason with him and begs him to back off. Stephanie backs Shane up. Stephanie says Shane has a lot of respect for Flair, but she doesn’t. Stephanie then slaps Flair and he goes down! Charlotte goes to attack Stephanie, but Natalya takes her down and applies a Sharpshooter. Charlotte screams and taps out. Natalya then holds up the WWE Women’s Championship.
