Chono 25th Anniversary Show to Feature Dream Tag Team Match Up
The Sumo Hall in Tokyo will play host to the Masahiro Chono 25th Anniversary show, which will take place on October 12th. There was a rumor going around that this could feature Chono challenging then-IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi in what was supposed to be his final title match, however, with Tanahashi getting injured at the G1 Tournament, those plans were scrapped.
New Japan management has gotten really creative however, and have secured both Keiji Muto and Kenta Kobashi for the show. Muto will team with his long time rival against Kobashi and an opponent to be named soon. There were rumblings of it being Toshiaki Kawada, but there’s also been talk of it being Tanahashi. Either way, it will be Kobashi and Muto’s first time facing each other in a wrestling ring. Believe it or not, this match up has never taken place, so it should draw well.

Nagata Produce Show A Big Hit
Yuji Nagata produced his first show in nearly two years this past weekend at the Togane Arena. The event was a huge success, drawing nearly 3,000 fans, which is colossal considering this was basically a glorified house show. Nagata teamed with Akebono in the main event to defeat the Gaijin team of Giant Bernard and Karl Anderson. The even market Akebono’s first match in All Japan since the 2007 G1 Climax Tournament.

Korakuen Hall Show Sells Out Again
Last night’s Korakuen Hall against featured a packed house as New Japan continued along with its September tour. Apollo 55, the team of Ryosuke Taniguchi and Prince Devitt, successfully defended their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, defeating TNA’s Motor City Machine Guns in a return match from their July 31st encounter where Apollo 55 won the straps. Taguchi dropped Sabin with a Dodon to win their match and make it their second successful defense. Right now, the team is being billed as New Japan’s ‘franchise’ junior tag team.
Wataru Inoue began his pseudo trial series today to assess his standing as a heavyweight after struggling since coming up from the junior division. He faced Yuji Nagata and was completely dominated. Nagata told him to keep pushing forward at the post-match press conference.
Tomoaki Honma suffered perhaps his most embarrassing defeat to date, and boy, that covers a lot of territory. He dropped a decision to Tajiri, who defeated him in three seconds. Tajiri has stayed on board in New Japan and seems to be headed towards a match up with Hiroshi Tanahashi once he returns from injury.

All Japan Wraps Up Fall Tour With Korakuen Hall Show Featuring Kiyoshi
TNA’s Kiyoshi popped up last night in All Japan, teaming with the Great Muta to defeat Suwama and Shuji Kondo. The return helped sell out a show that as of a week and a half ago, was struggling a bit to sell tickets. However with the buzz generated from the Keiji Mutoh show on August 30th and then Kiyoshi being added to the card, it sold out relatively quickly. The coming tour will be built around the Gurentai-F4 feud that will likely culminate in Takayama facing Kojima for the Triple Crown.
In other news, the 9/23 card is beginning to take shape with an ‘old pancrase vs. new pancrase’ match ebtween Masakatsu Funaki and Masayuki Kono. Also, Minoru Suzuki and Nosawa Rongai will defend their All-Asian tag team belts against Akebono and Ryota Hama. Akebono said if they don’t win the belts, he’ll leave All Japan.

More on Hase Election
Hase won re-election last week to the Japanese Diet, despite losing to Ken Okuda, his opponent. He garnered enough voted to win the secondary party elevtion. Hase is a member of Liberal Democrats, and as weird as that sounds, they’re actually closer to the Republicans in US politics. They lost to the more liberal party in Japanese elections, although Hase was able to win the party race. They lost to the Democratic party, which won their races in a landslide.
