At last night’s 9/10 WWE NXT TV Tapings at Full Sail University, there was a segment where recent WWE signee Kana signed her official WWE contract with NXT GM William Regal. During the segment, it was revealed that the new name given for Kana in NXT will be Asuka. The Asuka name is based off legendary Joshi wrestler Lioness Asuka of the same name, who was part of the extremely popular Crush Gals tag team from the 1980s in Japan, which was the beginning of the boom period for Joshi wrestling in the country.
