Wrestling legend Billy Robinson passed away earlier today at the age of 74. Robinson is known for his time in the AWA in the 1970s, for New Japan Pro Wrestling with a classic feud with Antonio Inoki and for the UWF shoot promotion in Japan, working with future MMA stars Kazushi Sakaruba and Josh Barnett, as well as former WWE/ECW wrestler Nunzio (Little Guido). Robinson also had a starring role in “The Wrestler” that was released in the 1970s alongside main AWA rival Verne Gagne.
The Facebook page of the Scientific Wrestling training school in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Robinson was one of the main coaches there for several years, posted the following on his passing:
“I am unbelievably sad to report that my very good friend Billy Robinson passed away today. I hadn’t heard from him in days so I contacted his apartment complex to check in on him. When I called back for a progress report the apartment manager put the police on the phone, it seems he passed peacefully in his sleep. He was a lion of a man, bigger than life in so many ways, my wife and I named our youngest son, Lliam in his honor. You will be sorely missed, my friend. Thank you so much for living the life you did.”
On behalf of the staff at Wrestleview.com, we send out our condolences to the family and friends of Billy Robinson during this tough time.
