Larry Goodman sent this report in.
Rampage Pro Wrestling taped three episodes of television at Johnny G’s Fun Center in Warner
Robins, GA on October 7.
It was the “go home” taping for the annual Doctoberfest event on October 28, and what a go
home taping it was. The show had that spontaneous, anything can happen feeling, which was
no accident since there were several happenings involving crazed RPW owner Doctor Johnny
Gayton that were legitimately not on the format. .
Back in the day, when the television show could be make-or-break at the gate, this taping would
have maxed out the profit on the live event. As it was, RPW went all out to hype the main event
cage match. There title matches and a Peach Division bout were also set up.
Sadly, there were only 90 people in attendance to see what turned out to be a somewhat
excessive but highly entertaining show. RPW was running against serious competition in e form
of the Georgia National Fair in nearby Perry. RPW scored a moral victory by at least drawing
better than they did a year ago on fair Sunday, and the crowd hung in there pretty well for a three
hour taping with no intermission.
For the opening segment of hour number one, ring announcer Dan Masters introduced the new
broadcast team: the returning Nigel Sherrod on color commentary, new locker room interviewer
Brad Storm and lead TV announcer/RPW radio host Josh Wheeler.
Sherrod replaced Bill Behrens, whose tenure is now a piece of RPW’s most interesting history. In
addition to his announcing duties, BB formatted the television for deposed booker Jimmy Rave.
(1) Tracy Taylor pinned Nina Monet in 5:03 with Hawaii Five O. Tracy has gotten herself
into phenomenal shape. The debuting Monet (one of several PCW regulars angling for RPW
roster spots) handled herself well, so with Tracy leading the way, this was a perfectly acceptable
opener.
Pandora attacked Tracy. After just the right amount of comeback by Tracy, Monet pulled Pandora
out of the ring.
Hot Like Lava (Cru Jones & Shaun Banks) interview at ringside. Jones earned the title shot
of his choosing by winning a rumble match at the September 22 taping, and he wanted RPW
Heavyweight Champion Luke Gallows, deeming Gallows as too ugly to be champion. Jones
said Banks would check Cash. He said Banks didn’t need a jock strap because his privates
were padded with one dollar bills. Per Jones, Hot Like Lava = undergarments coming down and
pregnancy rates go up.
(2) “Marvelous” Michael Stevens defeated Joey Kidman in 5:30. The end came when
Stevens pulled referee Stanley Robinson in front of him and punched Kidman in the groin.
Doc said he didn’t care about Doctoberfest. M1 and JRod were making him berserk, and he
wanted them NOW. To prove the point, Doc pulled off his shoe and repeatedly hit himself in the
head with it. Doc then threatened to slug Dan Masters, forcing him to jump out of the ring. Doc
bellowed like a crazy man until his partner and noted hothead, AJ Steele came out to calm him
down. Doc ripped up the ringside crash pads and tossed a chair before Steele could usher him to
the back.
Masters announced Gayton & Steele vs. J-Rod & Murder One inside a steel cage for
Doctoberfest.
Charlie Cash came to the ring with a revised Cash Vault, anchor Bobby Moore and newcomer
Sylar Cross. Cash said they were going to celebrate the first anniversary of holding the tag titles
with a gauntlet match.
(3) Cash Vault retained the RPW Tag Team Championship via DQ in a total time of
14:22. Their first opponents were Leon McMichaels and Zac Edwards. The crowd likes them
and were off to a fast start until Moore took Edwards’ head off with a lariat. Cross had Edwards
beaten with a massive high crossbody but eased off the pin attempt. Moore gored Edwards
for the win at 3 minutes. Drew Adler & Steve Stiles were the next victims. Adler hit a beautiful
corkscrew flip dive on Moore. Eventually, Moore cut Adler off with a german suplex, with Adler
taking a full rotation bump. Stiles took the hot tag. Moore was getting his clock cleaned so he
loaded up his elbow pad. Adler stooged it off to Stiles and tried a 450. Moore moved. Adler
managed to land on his feet, but Moore nailed him with the loaded elbow pad for the pin at 9:07.
Miss Allie brought out her latest acquisition to Allie’s Angels, the former Rave Approved team of
Corey Hollis & Chip Day. Cash Vault fretted and for good reason. Hollis and Day were on fire. In
an amazing show of strength, Hollis hoisted Cross onto his shoulders for a Samoan Drop. Cross
has to go at least three fifty. Day took Moore out in spectacular fashion with a flip dive. They used
on of their patented devastating combo moves on Cross, and Hollis had him pinned when Moore
bashed him with the belt for the DQ. This match had a lot of really good stuff. Day and Hollis are
definitely over as a babyface team, although it’s odd that they are being managed by that spoiled
rich girl, Allie.
Postmatch, Day and Hollis forced Cash Vault to flee the ring. Allie demanded a rematch at
Doctoberfest. Ben Masters said he would make it happen. End of hour number one.
The second hour opened with Dan Masters at ringside with Wheeler and Sherrod.
(4) J Rod (with Murder One) defeated Tommy Daniels in 3 minutes. Mr. Arrogance wasn’t
satisfied with his introduction, and coerced Dan Masters into repeating it three times. Daniels
was giving J Rod a run for his money. Murder was giving J Rod hell about it, which made for an
entertaining story-within-the-story. J Rod resorted to rolling Daniels up using the tights.
Postmatch, Murder and J Rod punished Daniels while the fans chanted for AJ to come out.
In ring interview with Pandora — Dan wanted an explanation for her actions. Pandora said this
was wrestling, not a beauty contest, and claimed to be the pound-for-pound toughest woman in
pro wrestling. She challenged Tracy to a match. Tracy hit the ring. Pandora bailed with “chicken”
chants ringing in her ears. Tracy said a match next week on TV was fine with her.
(5) Murder One (with J Rod) defeated Zac Edwards with The Ether in 1:56. Murder told J Rod
he would show him how it was done.
Postmatch, Doc hit the ring with a chair. His keeper, Steele, was trailing behind him.
Murder pulled Dan Masters onto the ramp and started to choke him out. Took his watch too. This
was one of the aforementioned impromptu deals. Murder warned “Johnny” that if he came one
step closer, the fool’s neck would be broken. Murder told Doc he was losing his mind and was
no longer fit to be in the company. Murder said Doc was setting a bad example for the kids, and
put himself over as the model citizen. Steele backed Doc against the wall to shake some sense
into him. Good luck with that, Steele said the peeps wanted to see what Doc was made of in the
cage, not like this, Steele said he was wearing white because he wanted to see red all over it,
and promised Doc that the blood would flow inside the cage. Doc said he wanted them to bleed
tonight and walked off on Steele.
Ben Masters introduced the next match, explaining that Dan was still getting checked out. It
would have been even better if Dan disappeared for the rest of the episode.
(6) Chris Jacobs defeated Jake Slater in 6:20. This was a showcase for Jacobs’ rapidly
improving technical skills. Wheeler has been referring to Slater as a grizzled veteran, and is that
ever the kiss of death. Match was OK but the fans weren’t feeling it. Kidman came to ringside.
and wanted to know why Slater turned on him in the rumble match at the last taping. Slater
popped Kidman in the face. Jacobs capitalized on the shenanigans by rolling Slater up.
Kidman laughed at Slater. “This time, shame on me, next time, shame on you.”
A visibly shaken Dan Masters hyped Doctoberfest and introduced a video segment on Allie’s
Angels.
(7) Cru Jones (with Shaun Banks) defeated Bobby Moore (with Charlie Cash) in 6:35. Jones
ducked the loaded elbow pad and rolled Moore up for the pin. Jones has elevated his game of
late.
(8) Mike Posey defeated Kyle Matthews to retain the RPW TV Title in 9:25. On the comeback
trail, Matthews set up for the tope, but slammed on the brakes when he saw Posey duck. Posey
pulled Matthews out and picked up a chair, but referee Dustin Robinson took it away. Matthews
went for the tope again…and accidentally obliterated Robinson. Posey tried to use the belt on
Matthews and ate a superkick instead. Matthews covered while the fans counted 10. Matthews
rolled Dustin back inside the ring. It was just recovery time Posey needed. He clobbered
Matthews with the belt for the 1-2-3. This was another fine main event. Posey was on his game.
I like the story their telling with Matthews, who is one of the more versatile wrestlers on the
independent scene.
The hour closed with both of the Masters at ringside with Matthews. Dan Masters called it
highway robbery. Commissioner Ben said no wrestler in the building had more heart than Kyle.
Ben referenced the weight limit that now stood between Matthews and the heavyweight title, and
announced a rematch with Posey for Doctoberfest. Matthews vowed to take Posey’s title.
The third hour of TV opened with Dan Masters, Wheeler and Sherrod at ringside, and included a
reference to Nigel’s firsthand experience with the Peach Division.
(9) Pandora (with Nina Monet) defeated Tracy Taylor in 8:48. Tracy alternated between
beating Pandora senseless, and outclassing her with wrestling skill. That Pandora has New York/
New Jersey mouth on her that Souterrners instinctively hate. Monet pulled Tracy off the ring
apron. Pandora followed her out, ramming Tracy into the post, then rolling her back in for the
easy win.
Postmatch, Pandora and Monet (aka Platinum Perfection) gloated while referee Jeff McGowan
tended to Tracy.
Dan Masters hyped the upcoming six man main event, then pitched to a backstage segment with
that chair swinging freak, Doc Gayton.
(10) Shane Marx defeated Steve Stiles in 10:03. Storm replaced Sherrod on commentary for
this match. Stiles showed admirable resiliency against the former PCW and EMPIRE Champion.
Stiles kicked out a huge spinebuster, made Marx miss with a flying elbow drop, and hit a
corkscrew neckbreaker for a two count. Marx answered with a uranage for a close near fall, so
close that somebody at the desk rang the bell. Stiles fought off Marx’s sure-fire finisher, the DVD,
and connected with a dropkick, before Marx ended it with the DVD. It was an impressive debut by
Marx. The RPW fans showed respect for his ability and hated his personality.
Masters introduced a video feature on Mexican sensation Rey Lampago (aka Antonio Garza).
(11) Rob Adonis (with Miss Allie) defeated Drew Adler in 5:30. Adler is built much like Chikara
wrestler, Mysterious and Handsome Stranger. Adler doesn’t have Stranger’s unique charisma,
but he’s the better wrestler of the two. The crowd was fairly dead for this. It was a a prime
opportunity for Miss Allie to shine, but her instincts at ringside leave a lot to be desired. Allie
grabbed Adler’s leg and Adonis spinebustered him for the 1-2-3.
Dan Masters introduced a pre-taped interview with Thunderbolt Patterson, and announced that
Commissioner Ben had added Taylor vs. Pandora at Doctoberfest.
(12) Murder One & J Rod & Vordell Walker defeated AJ Steele & Micah Taylor & Shaun
Banks (replacing Doc Gayton) via DQ in 15 minutes. Walker, a babyface in his previous stints
at RPW, returned as the heel mystery partner. Before the match got underway, Commissioner
Ben said that in order to ensure that the cage match would take place and that Doc would be
able to perform his surgical duties next week, he could not allow Doc to wrestle the match. The
logic of this was lost on me. The crowd loudly expressed their dissatisfaction.. Doc’s reaction was
predictably nutty, but Ben’s ruling stood. Ben introduced Banks as Doc’s replacement. Micah
is now sporting an iridescent pink streak in his hair. Micah and Walker had quite the spirited
opening exchange. Awesome stuff. J Rod did some hilarious selling for Banks. Steele got a small
piece of Murder One before the heels got heat on Micah. When Banks got the hot tag, the match
broke down to six way chaos. J Rod got his lip split open by a kick from Banks. Doc hit the ring
and smashed J Rod in the head with a chair. Thank God he got his hands up.
Postmatch, Doc put J Rod’s arm inside the chair and stomped on it. Doc promised two broken
arms for J Rod at Doctoberfest.
NOTES: RPW has partnered up with TNA for their show in Macon on October 20, which will
include a special RPW feature contest – Hot Like Lava vs. Mike Posey & Corey Hollis… Dan and
Ben Masters both plugged the silent auction to support Lynn Helms, a loyal RPW fan in need
of a liver transplant…Zane Dawson, Charlie Dreamer canceled…Tommy Too Much canceled
and Simon Sermon was a no show, so they couldn’t do anything to advance the budding feud
between Exotic Ones and the BFFs. However, Exotic Ones vs. BFFs (Anthony Andrews &
Michaels Stevens) has been signed for Doctoberfest…Commissioner Ben Masters announced
that Murder One and J Rod have been fined for their attack on Dan Masters and both have been
warned that they will be suspended if they touch any RPW announcer and the same thing applies
to all RPW wrestlers…Thunderbolt Patterson and Miss Rachael (PCW) were backstage.
