Predictions from the Faculty
WWE SummerSlam 2012 Edition
August 19, 2012
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com
Introduction
Welcome to the Round #14 of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #4). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for Hardcore Justice! The show will be live at The Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
The card is currently booked to have eight matches. The card was announced as of Saturday, August 18th. If they add any matches after Saturday evening then the matches will not count.
In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists, recappers, and radio hosts at Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2013 Royal Rumble or WreslteMania XXIX as we are unsure of the decision).
What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. You can participate by contacting me in any means under the “Dismissal” portion of this piece. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.
Tie-Breakers will determine standings!
I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be five championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FIVE points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.
But wait, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!
I got approval for this decision, and for the SECOND time in our four seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2013). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.
*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Predictions for WWE SummerSlam
(Note: N/A means that a person’s picks are “not available” at the moment).
Non-Title Matches
Singles Match
Daniel Bryan vs. Kane
Nick G. – DBRY~!
Evan O. – KANE.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – KANE. I don’t know why I am making this pick, but I think Bryan has a character that is distracted. Usually when there is a distraction, they lose their mind. Kane gets a win in what can be a match of the night.
Jason N. – My boy D-BRY.
Darragh O. – KANE.
Josh B. – BRYAN.
Matt O. – BRYAN.
Grash – DANIEL BRYAN.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – KANE.
CONSENSUS: BRYAN 5-4. It was the closet vote possible, but the staff predicts that the winner will be someone that has “anger management” issues. Now for another prediction: Will Charlie Sheen interfere in this match?
Singles Match
Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho
Nick G. – ZIGGLER
Evan O. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – ZIGGLER. Dolph does not need another benchmark win, but will get one and Jericho will once again complete another WWE run. Unlike his last run, I happened to enjoy the babyface work this time.
Jason N. – ZIGGLES.
Darragh O. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.
Josh B. – ZIGGLER.
Matt O. – JERICHO.
Grash – DOLPH ZIGGLER.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – DOLPH ZIGGLER
CONSENSUS: ZIGGLER 8-1. In an almost unanimous decision, the staff predicts that Jericho’s last match in his latest WWE run will be unsuccessful.
Singles Match
Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar
Nick G. – LESNAR SMOSH!
Evan O. – TRIPLE H.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – LESNAR. It’s “personal” and will be the most intense match on the card. I’d pick Triple H, but Lesnar can’t go 0-for-2 since he returned, can he?
Jason N. – TRAPPLE H.
Darragh O. – TRIPLE H.
Josh B. – LESNAR.
Matt O. – LESNAR.
Grash – TRIPLE H.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – BROCK LESNAR.
CONSENSUS: LESNAR 5-4. In another close decision, the staff gives the slight edge to Mr. Lesnar in a feud that lasted the entire summer.
Championship Matches
YouTube Pre-Show Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
Santino Marella (c) vs. Antonio Cesaro
Nick G. – CESARO.
Evan O. – SANTINO MARELLA.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – CESARO. I am going with my heart here. Cesaro was one of my favorites when I covered ROH a couple years back on Wrestleview, enjoys a nice cup of Starbucks, and is a big fan of Team Handball in real life. Santino can still get over without the title. Imagine what this win could do for Cesaro?
Jason N. – THE COBRA.
Darragh O. – SANTINO.
Josh B. – CESARO.
Matt O. – SANTINO.
Grash – SANTINO MARELLA.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – ANTONIO CESARO
CONSENSUS: MARELLA 5-4. Cesaro is a worthy opponent to Marella’s United States Championship, but in the end the staff predicts that Santino will retain his championship.
Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
R-Truth and Kofi Kingston (c’s) vs. The PrimeTime Players (Titus O’Neil and Darren Young)
Nick G. – TROOF/KOFI.
Evan O. – KOFI KINGSTON AND R-TRUTH.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – KOFI AND TRUTH. The PTPers are nowhere ready to hold the title. Besides, Truth and Kofi have meshed well as a team. If they really want to develop a “tag divison”, the champs are the team to hold the banner.
Jason N. – #BILLIONSOFDOLLARS #MONEYMAKINGSCHOLARS
Darragh O. – R-TRUTH AND KOFI KINGSTON.
Josh B. – R-TRUTH AND KOFI KINGSTON.
Matt O. – PTP.
Grash – TITUS O’NEIL AND KOFI KINGSTON.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – TRUTH AND KINGSTON
CONSENSUS: TRUTH AND KINGSTON 6-3. While some members on the staff believe it is time for the PrimeTime Players to make some noise (sans AW), the majority predicts that The Booming Truth will retain their championship.
Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
The Miz (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
Nick G. – MIZ.
Evan O. – THE MIZ.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – THE MIZ. Mysterio does not need the title, and The Miz can still do great things as the Intercontinental Champion. This has potential to be one of The Miz’s best matches in a while.
Jason N. – MARINE 3.
Darragh O. – THE MIZ.
Josh B. – THE MIZ.
Matt O. – MIZ.
Grash – THE MIZ.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – THE MIZ.
CONSENSUS: MIZ 9-0. It appears that no one on the Wrestleview Staff have no faith in Mysterio’s first PPV match since his return. Expect The Miz to retain the IC Title tonight.
Singles Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio
Nick G. – DEL RIO.
Evan O. – SHEAMUS.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – DEL RIO. As much as I don’t want this to happen, it is time to change the title scene up a bit. With Sheamus not at 100%, Del Rio will go after Sheamus with force and (with a bit of tomfoolery by Ricardo) he will be the NEW World Heavyweight Champion.
Jason N. – DEL RIO.
Darragh O. – SHEAMUS.
Josh B. – SHEAMUS.
Matt O. – SHEAMUS.
Grash – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – SHEAMUS.
CONSENSUS: SHEAMUS 5-4. In yet another 5-4 vote, the staff predicts that Sheamus will retain his World Heavyweight Championship in what is going to be a hate-filled battle.
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. The Big Show vs. John Cena
Nick G. – PUNK.
Evan O. – CM PUNK.
Dave S. – N/A.
Anthony V. – CM PUNK. I think he is going to be the champion for another few weeks (if not at least give him a one-year title reign). Cena FUs Show and Punk will put Cena to sleep. It is quite elementary.
Jason N. – CP MUNK.
Darragh O. – CM PUNK.
Josh B. – PUNK.
Matt O. – PUNK.
Grash – CM PUNK.
Greg M. – N/A.
Jose M. – N/A.
Mike T. – N/A.
Sam N. – CM PUNK.
CONSENSUS: CM PUNK with 9 votes (Cena and The Big Show did not get one vote). Just like most of the matches since Punk’s reign began the staff completely agree that CM Punk will retain the WWE Championship.
