Fightful Select has provided more details on Gail Kim’s departure from TNA Wrestling.
Fightful notes that Kim’s termination from the company was a unanimously unpopular move based on those they spoke to, with at least one talent saying that it made the decision for them to leave the company when their contract ends.
Another person told Fightful they were not surprised to see Kim let go, because she has been very outspoken creatively, and would sometimes butt heads with people in control. In addition, there was another person in TNA that indicated “that’s what you want out of a person in her position. Someone who will advocate for a better show.”
Fightful also notes they were told that Kim was “very direct about her complaints when she felt like things could have been handled better or more professionally. Gail Kim was not involved in creative, and had been pushing heavily for the Knockouts division to do more after the departure of Scott D’Amore.”
One longtime name in TNA said to Fightful, they believe Anthem is going for a major regime shift with the departures of Scott D’Amore, Gail Kim and Josh Mathews – names that had been around for ages. This person pointed to the revolving door of TNA Presidents and the differing visions between them. Fightful added that Those they spoke to claim the decision to terminate Kim was TNA President Carlos Silva’s idea and he told Gail Kim she was fired, but didn’t provide a reason besides “changes.”
Furthermore, Fightful notes that “sources within AEW and WWE both said they expect Kim to get interest from across the wrestling world, with a few of the sources saying they were going to immediately push it. Fightful also notes they were told that Kim does plan to continue in wrestling.
The report concluded by noting that Kim is not under a no compete clause and can appear for any wrestling company she wants or work wherever immediately, if she so chooses.
With Kim’s departure, Tommy Dreamer will now be the Head of Talent Relations and Hunter “Delerious” Johntson will now head up creative.
