WWE, Vince McMahon respond to latest motion in Janel Grant lawsuit

Vince McMahon and WWE have responded to a recent motion from attorneys for Janel Grant requesting a status conference in regard to the ongoing lawsuit against the company, McMahon, and former executive John Laurinaitis before the United States District of Connecticut.

The request comes after an announcement from the SEC of charges brought against McMahon, which were settled after the former chairman paid a $400,000 fine and reimbursed $1.3 million to WWE.

The response from McMahon notes that they had filed a motion to move the lawsuit to arbitration as far back as April 2024, but the stay over the lawsuit ordered by the federal government meant there was no decision made by the court in that matter.

An argument was raised over the proposal of a schedule by Grant’s team to allow for an amended complaint on 1/15, claiming that this schedule has been in play and that there is no need for a status conference as the SEC filing regarding McMahon have “no bearing” on the civil lawsuit.

WWE’s motion argues that Grant’s request is “effectively an improper and belated request” to extend the deadline of the arbitration agreement, with an argument made that Grant’s team has “not shown good cause” for an extension to be ordered.

The original lawsuit, filed in January 2024, accuses McMahon of sex trafficking, emotional abuse, and sexual assault.
