During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the contractual status of Matt Cardona with AEW, after returning to the company to build an angle for ROH Final Battle.
When asked if the former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion was signed with the company in light of AEW Shop selling a Cardona t-shirt, Meltzer responded:
I know he was offered a contract. I don’t know if he’s signed or anything. So yeah, I guess maybe close.
Cardona wrestled in AEW in 2020, months after the former Zack Ryder was released from WWE, before returning as part of the “Cope Open” to challenge Adam Copeland for the TNT Championship this past March.
Cardona is set to face Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle, emanating from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Friday, December 20.
