Luchador legend Villano V passes away

CMLL has posted a statement confirming that Ray Mendoza Jr., better known to fans of lucha libre as Villano V, has passed away at the age of 62.

The legendary luchador, part of the well-known Villano wrestling family in Mexico, had a long and storied career in the country, winning a number of championships and other accolades across multiple promotions.

An influx of luchadores in 1996 saw Mendoza make his WCW debut at that year’s World War 3 event as part of the marquee sixty-man, three-ring battle royal, leading to a run in the company until 2000.

Mendoza officially retired from in-ring competition in March 2013, with occasional appearances in Mexico dating up to a tag match as recently as August 16, 2024.

Among the reactions on social media to the luchador’s passing is a statement from AAA, where Mendoza became a two-time AAA Americas Trios champion and even a Mexican National Atomicos (Four-Man) Champion.

Wrestleview extends its condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Villano V.
