The wrestling world mourns the loss of WWE Hall of Famer Sika, one-half of the legendary tag team The Wild Samoans. Sika, who passed away at 79, leaves behind a rich legacy that spans decades in professional wrestling.
The announcement was made on Instagram by his nephew, Jahrus Anoa’i.
Born Leati Sika Anoa’i in American Samoa, Sika began his wrestling career in the 1970s. Alongside his brother Afa, he formed The Wild Samoans, a tag team that would go on to become one of the most feared and respected duos in wrestling history. Known for their intimidating presence and savage style, The Wild Samoans captured numerous championships, including three runs as the WWF World Tag Team Champions.
Sika’s contributions to wrestling extended beyond his in-ring accomplishments. He was a key figure in the famed Anoa’i wrestling family, which includes a host of WWE superstars, many of whom have gone on to have Hall of Fame careers themselves. His son, Roman Reigns, is one of the most prominent figures in wrestling today, continuing the family tradition of excellence in the squared circle. Another son, Rosey (Matthew Anoa’i), who wrestled for WWE from 2001 to 2006, passed away at the young age of 47 in 2017.
The Wild Samoans were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. They were also inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sika’s family, friends, and fans around the world. May he rest in peace.
