During an appearance on a special live edition of Eric Bischoff’s Wise Choices podcast, Kevin Kelly addressed AEW firing him in March over public grievances against Ian Riccaboni.
When asked by Bischoff if he intends to sue AEW over their handling of the situation, the former Collision commentator responded that he would.
Kelly went on to talk about the backstage environment in the company, prior to his dismissal.
He’s got good people around him that he doesn’t utilize. His vision of what wrestling is, for me, works best on a small scale. People always wonder why did PWG stay small? Well they knew, I think, they knew if they went big it would go stale fast.”
[Tony Khan] wants to appeal to a niche audience with his vision of wrestling. But he thinks he can convince the people to watch on a grand scale. The other thing he’s done, he’s made himself the face of the company. He’s the one going now on TV interviews.
The grievances against Riccaboni came after comments made on a Discord server about Kelly promoting the film Sound of Freedom during a broadcast.
Addressing the remarks, which he felt were defamatory and “hurt his standing in the industry,” Kelly told Bischoff:
[The film is] about child trafficking, how could anybody (not) be against child trafficking? Well apparently, it’s a QAnon conspiracy theory movie, Eric, I don’t know if you knew that.
The film has seen its own share of controversy, including public criticism from Kristen Abrams, the Senior Director for The McCain Institute’s Combatting Human Trafficking Symposium.
