Top star officially becomes a free agent, more backstage details

As of midnight eastern on June 1, Becky Lynch has become a free agent.

Fightful Select has confirmed that Lynch did not sign an extension and that no new deal was reached before the expiration.

The report notes, as previously stated, the expectation within WWE is that Lynch will not sign with any other promotion at this time. However, other companies can now officially make offers to Lynch, which is very likely to take place.

Fightful Select also again has confirmed those within the pro wrestling industry expect the 37-year old seven-time women’s champion will receive the biggest contract offers of any woman in pro-wrestling history.

It is further noted by Fightful Select that sources within WWE said to them that Lynch was “class” to deal with, and she properly communicated that she is taking time off. There were previous reports which indicated Lynch was set to take time off after WrestleMania 40, but due to Rhea Ripley getting injured, WWE brought Lynch back into the fold.

Back on the April 22 episode of Raw, Lynch won Women’s World Championship in a battle royal to determine a new champion. She then dropped the title to Liv Morgan at King and Queen of the Ring on May 25.

Fightful Select concluded their report by noting it has been said that Morgan is now on a better path creatively with having beaten Lynch twice, rather than just having won the title in the battle royal or against less credible opponents.

Lynch challenged Morgan in a championship rematch inside a steel cage on the May 27 episode of Raw. Lynch was on her way out of the cage to regain the championship when Finn Balor and JD McDonagh came out to confront Dominik Mysterio who had the cage door open. Braun Strowman then came running down to the ring to chase down McDonagh and Balor. It was during the chase, Strowman pushed aside Mysterio, which caused the cage door to hit Lynch in the head, allowing Morgan to escape the cage to retain.

After her last match on the May 27 episode of Raw, Lynch posted a picture of her walking out of the Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia with the caption of “To be continued.”
