Matt Cardona made a surprise appearance on Saturday night’s AEW Collision, answering Adam Copeland’s TNT Championship Open Challenge.
Cardona put up a really good fight, but came up short in the end.
According to Fightful Select, the decision for Cardona to wrestle Copeland came together just this past week. The report notes that Cardona was originally scheduled to defend the Squared Circle Expo Championship against Ultimo Dragon at Saturday night’s Black Label Pro event, but he instead dropped the title on Friday night so he could travel to London, Ontario, Canada.
Fightful Select also notes Cardona has not signed a contract with AEW and will continue to work as a free agent. He and Steph De Lander appeared on this past Thursday’s episode of TNA IMPACT, which was taped last Friday night at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Cardona gave an assist to De Lander in the 8-4-1 match, as she will now go on to challenge Jordynne Grace for the Knockouts Title at Rebellion in Las Vegas on April 20.
