Pat Laprade of TVASports has announced the passing of Paul “The Butcher” Vachon has passed away. It was noted he was 86 and had passed away on Thursday 2/29.
Vachon is best known for wrestling in Stampede Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. Vachon retired in 1985. He is also a Former AWA tag team champion and Grand Prix Wrestling promoter.
In 1993, Vachon was diagnosed with colon cancer and had half of his colon removed.
Vachon was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2003. He underwent 40 treatments, one on each weekday for five straight weeks. Vachon had cancer burned out of his tonsils and as a result, he had to have his removed. Due to the radiation treatments, he had to undergo reconstructive jaw surgery. Vachon also suffered from diabetes.
Vachon was inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010.
Paul Vachon was also the adoptive father of wrestler Luna Vachon, who passed away on August 27, 2010 from a drug overdose.
