According to a report from Vice News on Friday, former WWE talent Ashley Massaro gave a statement accusing Vince McMahon of sexually preying on her and other female wrestlers.
The report notes Massaro provided the statement prior to her death at age 39 in May 2019. Her cause of death was by suicide.
Also per the report from Vice News, the previously unreleased statement was said to have been gathered back in 2017 by Massaro’s lawyers – Konstantine Kyros and Erica Mirabella as part of a sworn affidavit in their lawsuit against WWE regarding the company’s handling of concussions.
It was noted in the affidavit that Massaro alleged she had been drugged and then raped by someone posing as a military doctor on a base in Kuwait during a WWE tour in 2006. She further claimed Vince McMahon had apologized for what she went through, but McMahon also told her not to disclose any details of the incident because it would tarnish any working relationship WWE had with the United States military.
Massaro’s claim, which also included that Vince McMahon preyed on female wrestlers was not part of her sworn affidavit. It was said that her attorneys “ultimately left it out because it wasn’t relevant to central claims in the lawsuit in which they were representing her, which concerned concussions.”
The affidavit further allegedes that Vince McMahon wrote promos “with the clear intention of ruining [her] career” after attempting to get her alone with him in his hotel room late at night. Massaro rejected the advance, telling McMahon she wasn’t feeling well.
The Vice News report further notes that after Massaro’s death, Vince McMahon and WWE management claim they were never informed of her rape allegation against the person posing as a military doctor.
Massaro was with WWE from 2005-2008.
