It is Wednesday, my dudes…you know what that means.
Pyro kicks us off for another exciting edition of AEW Dynamite as we head to ringside for our opening contest! Out first is the champion as Rey Fenix heads to the ring…and out next is Jeff Jarrett, accompanied by his crew as the challenger heads to the ring. Before the challenger can get into the ring he’s intercepted by a dive by the champion! Fenix goes after Jarrett on the outside, but Jeff turns things around for a moment…but an Irish whip from Jarrett goes sour for Lethal when he takes a headscissors takedown!
Things eventually end up in the ring and this match gets underway officially!
AEW International Championship: Rey Fenix defends against Jeff Jarrett
Fenix catches Jarrett with a rollup after a springboard attack but only gets a nearfall. Jarrett turns things around as he sends Fenix to the ropes before hitting a big leg attack…and follows up with a strut! Jarrett mocks Penta with the “cero miedo” but gets taken down by the champ, who evades the wrath of Sutnam Singh before keeping on the attack as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: Jarrett is now firmly in control as he goes to work on the champ, wearing him down in the corner before testing the ropes…which appears to be a ruse as the ref fails to see Jarrett’s pals beating the champ down on the outside. Jarrett comes out of the ring now and goes after Fenix some more, sending him over the barricade. Fenix ends up being brought back to ringside, and the challenger brings him back into the ring for more damage as we come back from break!
Fenix starts to fight back, but he’s hobbling as his knee is still feeling the effects of earlier. Jarrett sends the champ out of the ring and Karen and crew go after him…only to be admonished by the ref, who has had her share of history with this particular group. Fenix is able to get back on the apron as a result of the breather he gets, hitting a springboard on Jarrett and a stomp for a nearfall!
Fenix looks ready to go as he waits for Jarrett to get up, hitting a thrust kick before climbing up top…turning his attention to Lethal with a kick, but Dutt gets in a distraction that allows Jarrett to get a low blow! Jarrett with the cover…BUT FENIX KICKS OUT!
Jarrett and Fenix go at it, before Jeff hits the Stroke for a cover…but just as the third count comes in, Fenix’s foot gets under the bottom rope to stop the pin! Sutnam gets on the apron but he’s intercepted by the champ, who counters a figure-four leglock into a cradle for the pin and the win to retain!
Winner via pinfall and still AEW International Champion: Rey Fenix
Fenix leaves the ring as Jarrett and crew show their displeasure at the result, staff checking on Fenix as we cut to footage from last week including a unique title celebration from MJF and Adam Cole on a boat. MJF offers to get Cole a beer, but pulls out the Dynamite Diamond Ring…something that Cole calls him out on.
Cole discusses how healthy it is to have more than one good friend, something Max reluctantly agrees to before they get a bite on the line…a BIG bite, revealing uhhhh…Captain Insano. The three men relax with a beer to close the segment out.
We get footage from earlier in the week in Tokyo as Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita seemingly threaten to take out Kota Ibushi before WrestleDream, and a promise that we’ll hear from the Family later tonight!
-Commercial Break-
Back at ringside, Renee is in the ring as Takeshita and Callis make their way to the ring amidst a sea of boos from the crowd. Renee asks if what we saw last week means that Sammy Guevara is indeed in the Family, something Callis responds to simply by welcoming to the ring the very man himself. Sammy comes to the ring with an updated entrance aside from the theme, the crowd booing him as he heads to the ring.
Sammy and Callis hug it out in the ring, and Takeshita does the same as Callis addresses what went down in Tokyo calling to roll the tape.
The footage reveals Callis and Takeshita entering the dojo, where they go after Ibushi…who holds his own against Takeshita and shrugs off an attack from Callis, but doesn’t fare as well with a kettle bell to the head! Callis shouts that Ibushi isn’t safe in Tokyo, in Seattle, or anywhere from the Don Callis Family!
Back in the ring, Callis hypes up his Family before Sammy finally speaks up, saying he’s been painted as the bad guy when in reality he’s the hero. Sammy says Jericho is the villain, something the crowd vehemently disagrees with as he addresses being great on his own, and Jericho seemingly clipping his wings every step of the way.
Thanks to Callis, Sammy was able to take the torch that Jericho was supposed to pass him. Callis ends things by saying they’re going to take everything but the tears from Omega, Jericho, and Ibushi.
The Family left the ring as we cut to footage from the Texas Death Match from Collision between Bryan Danielson and Ricky Starks. We then get exclusive footage of Wheeler Yuta and Ricky having it out after that match, leading to a challenge for WrestleDream as we get confirmation that Ricky Starks faces Wheeler Yuta at the PPV!
Back at ringside, Nick Jackson makes his way to the ring for our next match! Out next is Brian Cage, followed by Claudio Castagnoli before this match gets underway!
Three-Way Match (winner challenges for the AEW International Championship): Nick Jackson vs. Brian Cage vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Nick is immediately overpowered and sent out of the ring by Cage, who stares down Claudio before the two start going at it! They take each other down but neither has much of an advantage over the other as they trade strikes…until Nick comes back into things and takes both men down with his agility! They end up on the outside where Nick dives over the ropes onto both of the big men, before the action comes back inside the ring.
Nick is able to stay on the attack as he takes Cage down with a pair of knees to the back, but is dropped down with a big boot by Claudio as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: Claudio and Nick go back and forth, with Claudio having the advantage in the end before he leaves the ring to deal with Cage…who sends him into the barricade! Cage slides back into the ring to go after Nick, driving his shoulder into the midsection in the corner before laying in some chops. Nick starts to fight back, but both men are intercepted by the returning Claudio! Claudio turns his attention to Cage, who turns it around on the former ROH Champion and sets him up on the turnbuckle for some strikes…but as he steps away he’s taken down by Nick, who gets taken down by Claudio for a nearfall! Nick gets sent out of the ring by Cage as the big men go back at it, and we are back from break!
Claudio with a gutwrench suplex on Cage, who turns it around on Claudio with some hard strikes before Nick gets involved once again with his high flying. Claudio is caught twice, the latter being a tornado DDT before Nick hits a 450 on Cage for a cover…BUT CAGE KICKS OUT!
Claudio intervenes, bringing Nick out before sending him into the steel steps before turning his attention to Cage in the ring…eventually hitting a Big Swing on the big man! Claudio with the cover here, but Nick breaks it up! Nick sends Claudio out of the ring before climbing up top for a cross body on Cage…who catches him in mid-air, slamming him hard for a nearfall!
Claudio goes after Cage from the apron but is sent into the ring with a second rope vertical suplex for a cover…BUT CLAUDIO KICKS OUT!
Claudio rolls Cage up after a superkick from Nick, but Nick catches Claudio for a nearfall of his own. Things break down as all three men lay into each other before Claudio ends up getting a nearfall on Cage. Claudio sets Cage up and hits a Ricola Bomb, but gets taken out with a hurricanrana by Nick Jackson…who covers Cage for the pin and the win!
Winner via pinfall and challenging for the AEW International Championship: Nick Jackson
Video Package: The Righteous are ready to challenge MJF and Adam Cole at WrestleDream for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, stating it’s easier to forgive enemies than to forgive fake friends.
-Commercial Break-
Back at ringside, MJF and Adam Cole make their way to the ring to a big pop from the crowd. Cole is struggling with his crutches as MJF heads down fairly quickly, but both men make it to the ring all the same. Max gets a chair for Cole so he can be seated, but they still pose before MJF gets the mic to speak.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Devil has arrived in Colorado! MJF tells Cole to talk to the crowd, who gives a sad chapter to story time with Adam Cole. He talks about his ankle exploding, suffering torn ligaments, and having to get surgery. Cole expresses his disappointment, promising to come back as soon as humanly possible…but before he announces that they’re relinquishing the titles, MJF cuts him off.
MJF refuses to relinquish the titles to The Righteous, especially after having to wrestle twice in one night to win the titles in the first place. Instead, Max offers a proposal to his tag partner and best friend: he will defend the titles in a Handicap Match, and he is going to win because they are better than you, ba–
ADAAAAAAM!
Roderick Strong and The Kingdom show up on stage, with Strong saying he needs Cole more than ever in this time of emergency. MJF tells Cole to go to his boy Strong, and that the titles will be here for him when he gets back. Cole reluctantly gets out of the ring and goes with The Kingdom and Strong, heading to the back as MJF starts to speak again…only to be cut off by Bullet Club Gold!
The, uh, Bang Bang Gang head out to the stage before Jay White heads down the ramp with a mic in hand. A “TOO SWEET” chant gives Jay some pause, quickly followed up by an “MJF” chant before Jay cuts Max off from speaking. Jay says everyone has heard enough from Max, and would like to hear from Jay for a change.
Jay offers Max a chance to “revel in his moment,” something MJF doesn’t take kindly to as he runs the Switchblade down. MJF says he’s been compared to a lot of people in his career, and as his star rose the goal post kept moving and it never bothered him…until he read “MJF is good, but he’s no Jay White.”
The crowd express how they feel about that sentiment as Max continues, comparing himself to a filet mignon, and that a plate is centered around the filet much like this show is centered around the World Champion…and then there’s Jay. He’s very talented, but he’s confused fans that he’s also a filet mignon when in fact, he’s tofu.
Funny thing about tofu, it takes on the flavor of whatever you add to it…but you have to add to it, and Jay has been given everything to surround himself with. The cool look, the cool shirt, handed the keys to the greatest faction in wrestling…but if Max plucks it all away he’s left with plain, boring tofu. He calls Jay out for jumping on his plate, saying the Switchblade is “all hype” before giving him advice…if he were Jay, he’d leave this ring and stop talking smack to Max’s poors. If he doesn’t, the reports will forever say “sure, Jay White is good, but he’s no MJF.”
Jay mocks this, saying he came out here for his own personal MJF experience but says he’s a little bit let down. Jay’s interrupted by a “tofu” chant before saying something is off about Max these days…it’s either the injury or his new bromance with Adam Cole. Jay says MJF wishes the people would love him as much as they love Cole, which gets an “MJF” chant…leading to Jay running them down before continuing.
Jay says this situation is partly his fault, that if he hadn’t taken Cole out with injury back at the first Forbidden Door none of whatever happened would have ever occurred…except that Cole getting injured last week is all Max’s fault. Jay’s been ruining MJF’s life from afar for a while now, but the time is right for him to ruin his life up close.
He continues to run down the champ before hyping himself up, calling himself the catalyst of professional wrestling and that he will be a truly elite champion when he peels the World Championship from MJF’s corpse. Jay is cut off by more chants from the crowd before saying MJF will have the fans, the fans will have him, and Jay will have the AEW World Championship…because Max has gone soft.
This riles the World Champion up, taking his shirt off as he goes after the Switchblade…who wisely escapes the ring as he jawjacks with the champ from the ramp.
We cut to a sitdown interview as Jim Ross talks to Darby Allin and the new TNT Champion Christian Cage, who claims that Darby’s previous wins were flukes and that Darby is nowhere near the man that Cage is. According to Cage, Darby has been relying on silliness like his skateboard, but this Two Out of Three Falls match will force him to actually wrestle.
Cage starts to run down Darby’s dead uncle, something that starts to rile Darby up. Darby refuses to bring Nick Wayne into this match, and tells Christian he should keep Luchasaurus away as well if he’s got what it takes. This devolves into a shouting contest between the two before we cut away!
Back at ringside, Orange Cassidy makes his way to the ring four our next match as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: The rest of the competitors make their way to the ring to get ready for this match, and as we come back from break the match gets underway!
Fatal-Four-Way Match: Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Jackson vs. Penta El Zero Meido vs. Austin Gunn
The action is chaotic at the outset, all four competitors running each other ragged before we’re left with Penta and Austin in the ring. Austin taunts Penta as the two men before trading taunts at each other. This ends with Austin getting sent out of the ring as Matt comes in, but he’s sent out by Penta as Orange comes in…only to take a big ol’ kick by Penta! Austin blindsides the Lucha Bro before sending him out, as Cassidy comes back into the ring…only to be taken down for a nearfall by Austin as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: Austin is in control here as he goes after Cassidy, who fights back only to be taken down by Matt…who gets taken for a ride by a Penta suplex! It becomes a trading of suplexes between all four men until Penta stands tall…but not for long as Austin gets him before we come back from break!
Austin is taken down by Matt who flies off the turnbuckle onto Penta, as Cassidy and Austin fight on the turnbuckle…before Cassidy rushes Penta and Matt with a dive to the outside! Cassidy back in the ring but is taken down by Austin for a nearfall.
Austin is stopped by a Cassidy counter but Penta takes the former International Champion down…only for the exchange of moves to continue between all four men once more. Austin with a nearfall, and ends up taking a Destroyer by Cassidy as all four men start to get back to their feet…before they all drop down to the canvas.
Penta is back on his feet as he rushes toward Matt, but he’s taken to the corner as Matt and Cassidy got at it. Matt goes for the locomotion suplex but Cassidy fights out of it…and Matt takes all three men down with a modified O’Connor Roll and northern lights suplex for a nearfall! Matt stands alone as he brings Penta up, looking for the BTE Trigger…but Penta blocks it! Matt fights out of a Fear Factor as Austin intervenes, but he takes a sling blade! Cassidy catches Penta with a Orange Punch and goes for a Beach Break, but Austin sneaks in a nearfall on Cassidy instead!
Austin tries to go for Matt and then Penta but they each kick out…before three of these four trade superkicks! Austin pulls Penta out of the ring as Cassidy nails Matt with an Orange Punch…and gets the pin and the win before Austin can intercept!
Winner via pinfall: Orange Cassidy
The tag partners come down to ringside ahead of the big four-way tag match at WrestleDream as we go to break.
-Commercial Break-
Back at ringside, Julia Hart makes her way to the ring for our next match! Out next is Willow Nightingale, looking none too pleased as she is still dealing with what Julia did to her as Willow heads to the ring before this match gets underway!
Julia Hart vs Willow Nightingale
Willow goes after Julia immediately, putting that power on display with an extra bit of aggression before Julia turns things around…only to be sent down hard by Willow! She keeps on the attack with a suplex for a nearfall, before mounting up with some punches before stepping away. Julia is taken down with a couple scoop slams but Julia fights back, before avoiding a lariat and escaping the ring!
Julia slides underneath as Brody intimidates Nightingale, allowing Julia a chance to turn things around with a chop block as we go to picture-in-picture:
Picture-in-Picture: Julia is in control now as she brings Willow back into the ring, focusing on where she attacked Willow previously before attacking her in the corner. Willow fights back for a moment, but Julia breaks out of a Death Valley Driver attempt to get back in control as she sends Willow against the ropes. This continues in the corner before Julia mounts up on Willow with punches this time, before locking in a chinlock that Willow tries to fight out of as we come back from break.
Willow manages to break out of the hold by dropping Julia to the canvas, and Julia escapes to the corner only to be hit with a hip attack by Willow, who drives Juila to the canvas for a nearfall. Willow with a short arm lariat, but Julia evades a second one before locking in Hartless on Willow…who narrowly gets to the ropes to break the hold!
Willow gets to the corner as Julia rushes with a cartwheel of sorts…but right into THE POOUNCE! Willow sets Julia up in the corner for the Stampede, but Julia evades and hits a moonsault press on the fallen Nightingale for the pin and the win!
Winner via pinfall: Julia Hart
Julia decides that’s not enough as she locks in the Hartless on Willow once again…until Kris Statlander rushes in for the save! She goes after Julia who escapes to the ring, hiding behind Brody who stands his ground against the TBS Champion before we get a rundown of what’s to come this week on AEW programming!
Back at ringside, Prince Nana and Swerve Strickland step out as they make their way to the ring for the contract signing as we go to break!
-Commercial Break-
Back from break, Renee has joined Swerve in the ring before Hangman Adam Page makes his way down, as we are informed that Mogul Embassy and The Elite have been banned from ringside. Swerve says he didn’t think Page had it in him, the fire that he’s been showing lately…but it’s a little late for that. Seattle is whose house? Swerve’s house, and it’s a lion’s den Page is heading into.
Swerve runs the former World Champion, who responds by saying Swerve should be fired up. Page says the things Swerve said stung at first, but now he thanks him for saying those things because for a year and a half, everyday Page came to work he could see a little black cloud hanging over him and he couldn’t figure out what it was.
He talks about the win over Mox and reuniting with The Elite, but every time he started to smile that cloud would come back and it would start to rain again. He tried to keep an umbrella by his side but he weathered the storm, and he is still…and those comments washed something out of Page. Now that he’s had time to reckon with that, he’s come to realize that these people deserve the best from him…and he deserves it for himself.
So, that’s what Swerve will get at WrestleDream…the best of Hangman. Page signs the contract as Swerve just laughs, saying that was beautiful but also pathetic, almost as pathetic as Denver. He says this isn’t personal between the two of them, it just happened to be Hangman that Swerve came after.
He makes enemies for himself so he can better him, and he’s going to take everything from Page this Sunday…and by the way, it rains a LOT in Seattle. Page responds saying they could go back and forth about whether Page was handed or earned his opportunities, but it cannot be denied that every opportunity he had, Page knocked it out of the park.
Swerve should want this spot, but he does not have what it takes to fill Hangman’s boots. This gets a slap from Swerve who signs the contract…and Page retaliates by stabbing Swerve’s hand with the pen!
Security rushes in to stop any further conflict as the show comes to a close…but not before we cut backstage, where someone dressed as the Devil and some masked thugs beat up Jay White! This Devil grabs the camera, and we CUT to black to end things here!
