F4WOnline has published some further details about the investigation process and fallout from CM Punk’s termination. The updated information was revealed Saturday night on the post-Collision episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez noted the investigation over the past week involved talking with all those who witnessed the backstage altercation All In between Punk and Jack Perry. There was said to have been an outside investigation in which “a lot” of the wrestlers were interviewed on how things had changed and/or not changed over the last year.
Meltzer did not have the names of those who were part of the AEW disciplinary committee that was mentioned by in the statement/press release regarding Punk’s termination. He did say that the committee, lawyers and the external investigators did however, all came to the same conclusion about Punk and Khan and then made the call to terminate him, effective immediately.
Meltzer also said that while Punk was terminated over the All In incident, there is “so much more to it that has not yet come out which contributed to the decision, indicating more news about this is expected.
Furthermore, Meltzer said that he was “far too kind” in his reporting in this past week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter about Punk “lunging” in Khan’s direction after the Perry incident was broken up.
F4WOnline concluded by noting Alvarez said there was a meeting with the talent backstage prior to Saturday night’s Collision about Punk’s termination and no update on the status of Punk’s personal friend and trainer Ace Steel who was re-hired as a remote worker after he was initially fired by AEW following the post-All Out backstage brawl last September.
