Former WWE champion booked for movie role based on Mildred Burke

IMPACT star Trinity Fatu (former WWE Superstar and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Naomi) has been booked for a role in “Queen of the Ring.”

The film is based the story of Mildred Burke. The film is said to be currently in development and pre-production and is produced by WWE Hall of Famer and AEW announcer Jim Ross.

The project summary from Production List for the film is as follows:

The Queen of the Ring is the story of Mildred Burke, a waitress who attended her first wrestling match and became the longest reigning champion of female wrestling. She fought and beat male wrestlers, and walked the fine line between beauty and brawler. The book captures the golden age of wrestling, showcasing one woman’s rise to athletic history.

Burke is an overall a three-time women’s world champion under different incarnations and recognitions of the National Wrestling Alliance.

In Burke’s heyday, which was from the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s, she held the NWA Women’s World Championship for almost twenty years. She got her start in pro wrestling in 1935, wrestling men at carnivals. She was managed by her second husband, promoter Billy Wolfe.  She is a charter member of WWE Hall of Fame’s Legacy Wing.

Burke faced many obstacles in professional wrestling during her time in the ring, as women were banned from yearly NWA conferences, thus diminishing the importance of women in professional wrestling. During her time in the ring in the 1930s and 50’s, she wrestled over 200 men, and only lost to one of them.

In her later years, Burke ran a women’s wrestling school in Encino, California.  She passed away on February 18, 1989, in Northridge, California from a stroke at age 73.
