Rumored CM Punk/KENTA match reportedly scrapped for Forbidden Door

According to a new report from Fightful Select, it looks as though any plans for a clash between CM Punk and KENTA have been scrapped ahead of AEX x NJPW Forbidden Door.

The match was anticipated by some after a number of back and forth shots over social media between the two in the past several years, centered around Punk’s use of the Go To Sleep (GTS) maneuver that KENTA previously pioneered.

With the two currently signed to partnering promotions in AEW and New Japan respectively, there was a sense that this match would happen at the event taking place this Sunday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

As of now there are four matches scheduled for the show, leading to questions of how Punk might be involved in the cross-promotional affair.

The lineup for Forbidden Door, as scheduled:

  • IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: SANADA defends against “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry
  • AEW World Championship: MJF defends against Hiroshi Tanahashi
  • IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship: Kenny Omega defends against Will Ospreay
  • Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada
