According to several media outlets on Friday, NBCUniversal has canceled Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Young Rock” TV series after three seasons. The show will not return for a fourth season.
“Young Rock” debuted in February 2021.
The series was based on the life of Johnson, starting with his childhood growing up in a professional wrestling family. The shows 37 episodes featured characters such as Randy Savage, Steve Austin, the Iron Sheik and Hulk Hogan. Most notably was Becky Lynch playing the role of Cyndi Lauper in season 3. The time periods covered in the show were 1982, 1987 and the 1990s.
The main premise of “Young Rock” was Johnson reflecting on his life in professional wrestling and football as he prepared to make a run for the president of the United States in 2032.
NBC had moved the third season from Tuesday night’s to Friday night’s opposite SmackDown which was not understood by many.
Johnson also served as an executive producer along with series creator Nahnatchka Khan who is the sister of WWE CEO Nick Khan.
As of this writing, Johnson has not commented on the show’s cancellation.
