According to BBC News Wales, last September’s WWE Clash at the Castle, held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff generated £21.8m (which is $23,938,000 USD) for the Welsh economy, per the Welsh government.
The report also notes a study found that three quarters of the fans who attended the show had travelled into Wales from outside the country. Clash at the Castle saw 60,000 fans in attendance at the venue.
An Economic Impact Study had questioned over 3,000 respondents and found 57% of non-locals said the event made them want to explore other parts of Wales.
Wales’ economy minister Vaughan Gething said the event not only had a direct economic impact, but it also provided a huge boost to the Wales profile internationally. Getting further noted that the event“included opportunities to showcase Wales’ vibrant language and culture through bespoke content creation shared globally on WWE’s social media channels.”
The report concluded by stating the amount that Clash at the Castle contributed to the economy was similar to rugby internationals – as research estimated each Six Nations game played in Cardiff boosts Wales’ economy by more than £20m.
WWE Clash at the Castle, which was watched as premium live event by millions around the world on Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network everywhere else, was WWE’s first major show in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992 at Wembley Stadium.
