Media Journalist weighs in on WWE media rights: WB Discovery might “like a slice of that WWE pie”

The current WWE media rights deal is set to expire in 2024, but there have been reports of negotiations possibly being underway following the transaction agreement between WWE and Endeavor.

And, despite comments from Nick Khan in the past that NBCUniversal and Fox have right of first refusal for any new deal, there may be another possible contender.

James Andrew Miller, a long-time journalist specializing in media, and has written books on the likes of ESPN, Saturday Night Live, and even has a book on HBO in the works, appeared on SI Media with Jimmy Traina with some thoughts on what a new WWE rights deal would look like.

Asked about other companies that might be interested, Miller states:

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Brothers Discovery wouldn’t like a slice of that WWE pie.”

Miller also talks about the possibility of moving either program (namely RAW) to another night, pointing out that sports tends to dominate Monday nights on the calendar:

“If a buyer comes in and doesn’t want Monday night, that Monday package is mobile. There is no reason why it has to be Monday night.”

It is worth noting that AEW’s current media rights deal with Warner Brothers Discovery expires at the end of 2023.
