Backstage details on Jay White signing with AEW over WWE

Fightful Select has recently released details pertaining to Jay White signing with AEW over WWE.

White made his surprise return to AEW on this past Wednesday’s Dynamite, attacking Ricky Starks before his match with Juice Robinson.

White reportedly signed a multi-year contract with AEW before last weekend’s WrestleMania 39. It was said that WWE had high interest in signing White back in January and they were confident they could lock him into a deal.

Fightful Select also notes the higher-ups within WWE failed to communicate properly to White, despite the very high interest that Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque and the Vice President of Global Talent Development William Regal had in White, which was said to be around the time of NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom PPV this past January.

The report from Fightful Select further notes that talks with White could have fallen through due to the return of Vince McMahon to the company. It was also said WWE even had tentative creative plans already set for White, due to some within WWE being certain that White was going to sign a multi-year contract with the company.

White left NJPW after lost a loser leaves NJPW match against AEW star Eddie Kingston at the Battle in the Valley PPV back on February 18 in San Jose, CA.
