According to Fightful Select, Davey Richards was on the outs with certain professional wrestling promotions prior to the domestic violence allegations which came out.
Fightful Select further notes that Major League Wresting was looking to distance themselves from him after what was said to be a pattern of odd behavior that began. Richards finished up with MLW in February. It was further said Richards told the NWA he was available for an appearance at the same time he had a commitment to MLW. The NWA and MLW eventually worked out the details.
The report concluded that Richards claims he was contacted by AEW to work a match with Bryan Danielson and that it was confirmed he did have talks with Sonjay Dutt, but that the spot instead went to former NXT star Timothy Thatcher, as he was considered to a much more credible opponent for Danielson.
Richards has denied the allegations. He issued a statement last week to PWInsider giving his side of the story, and announcing his retirement after several promotion cut ties with him.
As of this writing, Richards is still scheduled to face Jon Moxley at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 9 Thursday, March 30 in Los Angeles.
