AEW stars Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo were stripped of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles. Melo worked a tag team match on Wednesday night’s Dynamite, teaming with Anna JAS, defeating Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale.
Melo and Guevara were scheduled to appear on AAA’s “Noche De Campeones” event on December 28, 2022. However it was revealed they would not be appearing on the show.
Per Fightful, Flammer & Abismo Negro Jr won the match to crown new champions against the teams of Lady Shani & Octagon Jr and Komander & Sexy Star II, with Flammer winning the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles by hitting a Twisting Sit-down Tombstone on Sexy Star II to get the pinfall win. It was also said the championship belts were not present in the arena.
Konnan came out to the ring and said that Melo and Guevara were stripped of the titles for repeated absences from AAA’s shows and then he made a match to crown new AAA Mixed Tag Champions.
Konnan stated the following:
“Sammy & Tay have canceled three times, not twice. They wanted their own referee & Tay wanted her own stylist, so I have made a decision. There were three orders of business: Number One, The titles have now been vacated. Number Two: I have already sent someone to the United States to get the titles. And Number Three: Whoever wins this Triple Threat Mix Tag Match will become the new AAA Mixed Tag Champions.”
