It is Opening Day for my Summer Vacation pieces! And you know what, I am a Pittsburgh Pirates fan and they look competitive. So I am in the mood for a good summer song. There will be some random Pirates YouTube clips for this week, as I am excited about both professional wrestling and baseball. Enjoy the column (and some Skillet) everyone.
Introduction
Welcome to the latest edition of “From the Desk of Mr. V”. I am Anthony “Mr. V” Valvo, your WrestleView resident teacher with the same material as last time, but different names, matches, and articles.

As the title states, there is a show for International Wrestling Cartel called Super Indy X. It will be on June 18th in Elizabeth, PA. If you are interested, check out www.iwcwrestling.com/supercards/superindyx.html. When you see the lineup, you won’t be disappointed. A true “who’s who” in professional wrestling will be on display.
The first round (and one semi-final round) speaks for itself, as it features the following contests.
El Generico vs. Samuray Del Sol
Adam Cole vs. Façade
Ricky Reyes vs. Jason Gory
Egotistico Fantasico vs. Pinkie Sanchez
Also, it will have a special semi-final round as well, when Super Hentai (Current Super Indy Champion after defeating Matt Justice, a new WWE signing) will take on none other than Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana.
There is also more to this event. There will be a battle for control of power as Chuck Roberts will take on Bubba the Bulldog (a morning DJ in the Pittsburgh area who also wrestles). I can’t speak for Pittsburgh, but I hope Roberts wipes the floor with Bubba.
Also there will be a couple of strong championship matches on the card.
For the IWC World Heavyweight Championship, “Big League” John McChesney will battle a returning star in Ray Rowe. McChesney plays a heel so well, while Rowe is a man that can work a good program.
Finally, The Founding Fathers will defend their IWC Tag Team Titles against one of my favorite tag teams, The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli).
I have watched a couple of the International Wrestling Cartel DVDs, and let me tell you these guys do their best to put on a good show for those in attendance. The IWC really do a good job from top to bottom and glad that the independent scene in pro wrestling is thriving again in the Pittsburgh area. The event will be at the Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth, PA and the tickets are reasonable at $20-$25, depending on seat location. I recommend my readers in the ‘Burgh to check out quality professional wrestling at a very modest price.
Mick Foley leaves TNA/Impact Wrestling. Another reason TNA is hurting since late-2009.
I don’t know the exact date (later found out it was the 5/12 edition of Impact), but when I saw Mick Foley return to TNA television as an “Executive” to The Network. I watched the passion that Foley had in that promo and honestly it never gets old for me. Foley is a charismatic, popular person to have in any company. His storyline with Immortal had a mix of a great story and possibly giving the Impact fans what they wanted, someone to debate with Hogan and Bischoff. Honestly, this had some wings. And I even wrote in a previous column that I was really looking forward to seeing how this pans out. I was still thinking eventually Hogan and Immortal would win the war between them and The Network, but I never knew it would come to what happened a few days ago.
What happened was that now Mick Foley was frustrated with the direction of TNA (or Impact, but I will still call it TNA) and the writing staff. It appeared that he was just so fed up that he got released by TNA on June 5th and ended a potentially good story way too soon.
Once again, I felt that the loyal fans were tricked again. I believe that Foley has a very good mind in professional wrestling and was a huge part of these Monday Night Wars years ago. When Foley talks, usually people will try and listen to what he has to say. In my opinion, wherever Foley goes, it usually ends on a positive note. Now look at Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, who consistently campaigns for higher ratings and a bigger fanbase. I am not one for ratings or what the wrestling fans as a whole think. I know this will upset loyal supporters of the TNA product, but Hogan and Bischoff’s control of the company did not improve the product. Sure, they can promote how they are the #1 show on cable Thursday nights, but when will “enough be enough”?
There were three things before the Hogan regime that I enjoyed about the TNA product. Let me go over them just a bit and explain why I am just not a fan of the divisions anymore. This is a shame because I thought there was so much potential in that company, but they put their chips on black in the Roulette Wheel of professional wrestling and the ball landed on red.
First, I really enjoyed the X Division. It was a focal point to lead a PPV and it gave the quicker pro wrestlers something in the program. Sure, their moves are paced too quickly I get that. However, they had a story around that X Division Championship. I enjoyed watching the likes of Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Jay Lethal, Petey Williams, and many other talented wrestlers compete for that title. Now, it is pretty much non-existent like a ma-and-pa shop on the outskirts of a metropolitan town. They get “some” time, but usually the writing no longer has the time or energy to improve that division. Now Abyss is holding the title, and while I like it because that title is really about “no limits”, it does not do anything for that entire division or Abyss.
Second, the tag team wrestling was great in 2008-2009. There were impressive teams like the Latin American Xchange, Lethal Consequences, The Motor City Machineguns, Team 3D, and so many other teams. Now Homicide went to Ring of Honor after being released by TNA, The Guns are injured (but there was some teasing about a break-up now), Team 3D is no more, and both Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal are as well no longer in the company. Also, their most popular tag team (Beer Money) is reported to be breaking up. Now actually, that may be a good thing for a potential star in Robert Roode it will devastate that tag team division. There are teams like Ink Inc. and Generation Me, but they do not get the slightest bit of exposure to keep a casual fan interested. I believe now that Ring of Honor’s tag team division is the clear-cut best out of the top three wrestling companies, but that is a different story.
Last, the TNA Knockouts had such a great division. The Beautiful People “cleansed the world” and Gail Kim was a blue chip women’s wrestler at that time as well. Awesome Kong was featured almost every week, and even had a “Kong-tourage”. ODB had an impressive run as well. Even the likes of Hamada and Taylor Wilde really worked hard to put that Knockouts Division on the map. Now outside of the impressive pushes for Madison Rayne and now Velvet Sky, the division is just not there anymore. The roster is older and less athletic. Kong became Kharma where she could still be a force with the WWE in 2012. Gail Kim is in the WWE as well, but is unfortunately lost in the shuffle. Wilde retired and Hamada can be seen infrequently in the United States.
Now back to Foley. I can’t speak for him obviously, but I am sure that he did not like the direction that TNA was heading. Foley jumped ship just like other did to either find success in the WWE or trying to find better opportunities in the indies. While there are some good hires by TNA (I did not mention that TNA did right with Crimson, Gunnar, and Robbie E), there have been too many negatives that can bring in a fresh fanbase. I don’t think TNA is doomed yet, but the release of Mick Foley is going to create some more grumbles.
Quick Lectures
It looks like the main event for WWE’s Capiol Punishment will be R-Truth vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship. Now we all know about Cena, but I just wanted to say that it is refreshing to be wrong (and I am wrong many times, if I am right all the time I would be doing something more productive).
The character that R-Truth has become has been done before (as a victim of conspiracy), but we now have a different twist to the R-Truth character. While others spoke in a monotone mode and were just lacking R-Truth, what R-Truth has done in just a mere couple months exceeded the expectations of this writer. As a face, he just repeated the same phrases, was sloppy in the ring, and was pretty much lost in the shuffle. However, since he turned heel he has not only gotten better for himself, but more entertaining as a heel personality. I enjoy that he has no theme music (all you hear is “The Truth Shall Set You Free”. I like how he delivers his lines and feeds to the crowd in attendance. He just looks tremendously rejuvenated as a character. Before the spring began, I thought R-Truth was the mid-card guy that would be released by the WWE over the summer. However, what we got was a turn and now he is the #2 or 3 heel in the company (I still say Miz is the top heel, while CM Punk is still in that mix). But when one gets a reaction like Truth, it is hard to ignore. It won’t be the first, and it won’t be the last. I am glad that I was wrong about R-Truth.
John Cena reached a milestone on Facebook. Cena now has over 7 million Facebook followers. Only few people or celebrities reach this mark. So no matter how many people dislike John Cena he is not only getting more fans by the minute, he is money for the WWE.
THQ decided to drop the “Raw vs. Smackdown” name because there was “no brand rivalry”. That is absolutely true. I think we all should be happy that THQ is still producing WWE video games regardless of the title of the video game. Besides, outside of Bragging Rights, has a Raw vs. Smackdown rivalry been relevant then last five or so years? In my opinion, there really isn’t any relevancy. So I am happy that the WWE is coming out with their ’12 edition. And from the sounds of it, it should be a very entertaining game.
The Macho Man has died from ventricular fibrillation, which is a severe aberration of the heart that can lead to heart attacks. I am not one to make my column depressing because honestly I am not one of those people. I will always remember Randy Savage as a guy who was a rare breed of professional wrestler. He was truly an inspiration in our generation and he will be sorely missed (regardless of what he did to his body as a professional wrestler).
However, this in a way was a blessing for more than just one person. According to Lanny Poffo (Macho Man’s brother), if not for Lynn (Macho Man’s widow) this could have been a LOT worse. It was Lynn with the quick mind to steer the vehicle to the tree. She only had minor injuries; a motorcyclist and a bus (possibly full of people) were saved as well. I think Lynn should be thanked and we should express our sympathies to her. We lost a man we were so happy to see perform in a wrestling ring. Lynn lost a man who she loved until the end of his time.

WWE Production for Monday Night Raw – Is it me or recently they have had audio and Jumbotron errors. (i.e. on the 6/6 Raw Alex Riley was introduced and Cena was posted on the Jumbotron).
Michael Cole – Eh, it could be worse
Mike Tenay – I hate to criticize Tenay because I really think he is a good play-by-play commentator. But in 2011 he is much worse than last year.
Jinder Mahal – He did not have a good debut on Smackdown last week. It was very sloppy, but I am sure he will improve with experience.
Eric Bischoff – He gets one for insulting those 10%. Honestly, I think there is more than 10% that are not fans of the Impact Wrestling Product.
“Wrestling Matters” – I hope it does. Without Mick Foley in the company anymore, let’s see where this tagline goes.
Just For Men – What is with the dog commercial? That is seriously the stupidest commercial I have ever witnessed.

As previously announced on Mr. V #120, this is a new feature to the column after given the blessing by Editor-In-Chief Adam Martin. This is not a direct insult to anyone, but more of a “warning” to those who post ridiculous, uneducated, and puzzling comments under articles, columns, or recaps on WrestleView.com. I have a team of scouts who will be looking around to see who truly earns a “Brody” as the dumbest comment poster of the week.
To find out why I called this portion of the column the Brody, once again check out Mr. V #120. No, it was not because of Zack Ryder (this portions is “Brody” not “BROdy”).
After a few weeks of doing this little project for my column, I think that some people seriously try to make this column for the wrong reasons. I understand the right to free speech (as I teach that material to the real students), but I will condemn free speech that is, quite frankly, incompetent and shows lack of intelligence.
This week, I sorted throughout the WrestleView comments and found some wonderful (in the most sarcastic tone possible) posts from wrestling fans from around the world. However, there were many nominations for a comment under the heartbreaking news regarding Randy Savage. As I looked at this persons comments, I had no choice but to award him this week’s “Brody”. This man could have just stopped after his first comment and let it be, but then did the impossible. He posted a WebMD link under it to prove his point. Therefore, that comment earns The Brody. The winner this week belongs to “Dr.” Todd (now he is known as “Facebook user”, so he will just be Dr. Todd from now on).
The “Brody” worthy comment was this: “I know alot more about it then you do obv. OK joe it’s never been proven that abuse of steroids doesn’t cause heart diease and heart failure. What planet are you from?”

How did it end? The match ended with a CM Punk roundhouse kick to Mysterio’s head. Before the finish, Mysterio was a bit distracted by Mason Ryan.
Grade: B+ (leaned toward B).
High Honors –Sheamus vs. Randy Orton, WWE Friday Night Smackdown, June 3.
How did it end? Randy Orton connected with the RKO to pin Sheamus and retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Before the finish, Christian pretended to be too injured to make the “three-count” for Sheamus.
Grade: B.
Honors –Kazarian vs. Brian Kendrick, Impact Wrestling, June 2.
How did it end? Before the No Contest finish in the “overtime” segment, it was a very good back and forth match that featured some of the best X Division wrestlers on Impact. The original contest ended in a time-limit draw, and that was the part of the match that I truly enjoyed it.
Grade: B-.

The Pittsburgh Pirates – Back near .500 for the 2011 season. This is a huge mark that this team is doing well this into the season.
Nunzio – Because he is an awesome WWE referee. Hey, Mike Tedesco has Charles Robinson. CJ Bowman has Justin King. I claim Nunzio to be the best WWE referee now!
Goose Mahoney – I did not forget about you. Someone seriously should find out where he is right now.
Christian – I like the heel turn. I think the heel work will lead to better things for “Captain Charisma”.
AJ Styles and Bully Ray – To those that still watch Impact Wrestling, the story that both are telling in the ring is the best thing going for the company at this time.
Mick Foley – Wherever he goes, I wish him the best of luck. His charity work should be commended.
Jack Korpela – The WWE commentator is representing Pittsburgh very well. Seriously, I would rather listen to him than most commentators in professional wrestling right now.
The Usos – If the WWE writing team can find a place for them, either Smackdown or Superstars, it is a good thing. They are a very fluent and improving tag team.
Crimson – Though he is actually from Cleveland, this was a pretty smart hire for TNA.
Ring of Honor – I am looking at this “Best in the World” Card, and it should be an amazing show. Again, fifteen bucks for an iPPV and they mostly deliver.
International Wrestling Cartel (IWC in Pittsburgh) – They get one for booking a tremendous set of professional wrestlers for their Super Indy X show in Elizabeth, PA. If you are near the Pittsburgh area and want to support independent wrestling, this show is definitely one to check out.

Homework from Column #121

Glad to see homework assignments back in the column.
My picks for this assignment differ depending on one very important factor: will the booking continue in the typical WWE fashion, or will the person who brings the new talent in (namely, in this case, me) get creative control over what happens? I can supply a list for each, since this is a major point and I want to cover all my bases.
If WWE retains creative control, I would bring in the following wrestlers:
Claudio Castagnoli – The man has been under a WWE contract before, and is the type of guy Vince looks for in a “superstar.” Claudio has that “look” Vince loves, as well as a strong in-ring talent and pretty good mic skills. Along with him, I would bring in…
Chris Hero – These guys have worked together so long it would be foolish not to bring them in together. Hero has all the tools to succeed in every division.
Eddie Kingston – The man has been on fire the past year, and I cannot deny him the international exposure that WWE has. He can bring a gritty realism that is nonexistent in WWE these days.
AJ Styles – I think just about everyone has already said everything there is to say about AJ. So I’ll make up something I hope is new: pair Styles up with AJ Lee, and we’ll have the AJ’s. It could be awesome.
Davey Richards – Currently one of the best wrestlers in the world, Richards would bring a wealth of knowledge to the ring and could have awesome matches with one Bryan Danielson.
“Lightning” Mike Quackenbush – After Kingston, Quackenbush is my favorite wrestler. He is truly inventive and innovative, both in the ring and behind the scenes. And he can work every type of match known to man.
Sara Del Rey – Kong needs competition, and who better than Sara to provide said competition?
Now, to cut seven people from the WWE roster…(these choices are being made based on my last WWE interaction, which was about three months ago. So if I sound a little out of date, it’s because, well, I am out of date)
Alex Riley – Has he done anything since NXT besides being Miz’s towel boy and getting arrested?
Alicia Fox – No explanation necessary.
Ezekiel Jackson – The quintessential Vince McMahon-style talent – big, bodybuilder-type body, little-to-no in-ring or mic skills. He needs to work out in the ring more and in the gym less. Lose about 75 pounds of muscle and get some athleticism.
Mason Ryan – I would call him Batista, Jr., but I think he’s bigger than Batista, and (somehow) less talented. Yikes. To be fair, I’m judging him from one match I saw with R-Truth, which was abhorrently awful. I can’t imagine he’s gotten any better.
Michael Cole – The man who nearly single-handedly drove me away from WWE programming? Yeah, he should go ahead and leave. The world would be a better place without him on television.
The Great Khali – I’m pretty sure his legs are just one long femur bone now. He certainly walks like he doesn’t have knees. It’s just sad now.
Tyler Reks – The crazy hobo look doesn’t overshadow the complete lack of talent. He was doomed from the start. It doesn’t help that, when last I saw, he traded his athleticism for a syringe and about an extra hundred hours a week at the gym. (That was harsh, I know, but that’s what it looks like to me)

This Week’s Homework Assignment (Due in 2 weeks)
This coming weekend, I will appear on the WrestleView International Desk with Darragh O’Connor and Evan O’Brien. We talked about our project and it seemed quite successful. So I am going to lay down a challenge to my readers. Here it is:
Pick the Top 10 WWE, TNA, or ROH professional wrestlers that are 30 years old or younger. I compiled a list of wrestlers that are eligible and if you would like to complete this assignment please send me an e-mail and type that you are interested. I will give you the list and you can pick out your top 10. It will be announced at a later date.
Also, I plan on doing a Power Ranking system in the future. I will keep my readers posted.
