According to a story in the Toronto Star on Tuesday, AEW CEO and President Tony Khan said he is eager to start holding AEW events in Canada. The report also notes that AEW intended to run shows in Canada back in 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic halted those plans.
Khan said that Toronto is a logical place for AEW’s first Canadian show, given the city’s size and its deep roots with professional wrestling. The report states that there are at least three other Canadian cities Khan is considering for live events: Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.
Khan acknowledged that Canada, having a larger number of hockey arenas, is well suited to hosting pro wrestling events, and that selecting specific venues for their shows would come down to a handful of key factors.
