More TNA Stars Confirmed for TripleMania
This past weekend AAA confirmed that Velvet Sky & Angelina Love would be appearing alongside Mickie James at TripleMania in June. The three will team up with Sexy Star in a match. I would assume Angelina Love will turn on Velvet in the match (seeing their feud going on right now) or Angelina and Velvet are back together by then. On Saturday, AAA also announced that former TNA World Champion, Abyss, would be competing at TripleMania. He and Cibernetico teamed up to face to Vampiro & El Zorro in a Tag Match at last years TripleMania. Abyss and Mr. Anderson will face AAA Tag Team Champions: Extreme Tiger & Jack Evans for the belts. Also, Rob Van Dam will face Dr. Wagner Jr. in a first-time matchup for the newly created AAA Latin America Title. El Zorro will defend his AAA World Heavyweight Title against TNA founder Jeff Jarrett in another first-time ever match. The card (so far) is below in the Lineups section.

4) La Parka Jr., Drago, & Ozz def. Charly Manson, Cibernetico, & Escoria
5) Chessman, Silver Kain, & Ultimo Gladiador def. Extreme Tiger, Heavy Metal, & Jack Evans

– Escoria hits a Standing Moonsault on Ozz:
– El Inframundo (La Parka Jr., Ozz, & Drago):
– After the Main Event they announced a TNA team would challenge Extreme Tiger & Jack Evans for the Tag Team Titles at TripleMania (I’m guessing Beer Money) and then announced Mickie James, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, & Sexy Star vs. Mari Apache, Fabi Apache, Lolita, & Cinthia Moreno for TripleMania. Dorian told Konnan that he must resolve his issues with Jeff Jarrett and then the guy in the Zorro mask came out again and said a “dictator would fall.” Konnan thinks it’s the real Zorro.
AAA 05/18 TV Taping Results
1) Jennifer Blade, Polvo de Estrellas, & Sexy Star def. Mari Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata, & Cinthia Moreno
2) AAA Trios Titles Tournament Quarterfinals: Cuervo, Espiritu, & Ozz def. Super Fly, Tigre Cota, & Tito Santana II
3) AAA Trios Titles Tournament Quarterfinals: Monster Clown, Murder Clown, & Psycho Clown def. Chessman, Silver Kain, & Ultimo Gladiador
4) El Mesias, Extreme Tiger, & Jack Evans def. L.A. Park, Halloween, & Decnnis
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Nicho el Millionario, & Joe Lider def. Jeff Jarrett, Super Crazy, & Abyss
* NOTES *
– After the 2nd Tournament Match La Sociedad and Jeff Jarrett came out. This was supposed to be Konnan and Jarrett working out their differences but they revealed they were cool with each other all along and then jumped El Zorro. They kicked him out of La Sociedad and announced he was going to have to defend the Heavyweight Title against Jarrett at TripleMania. Super Crazy would replaced him in the Main Event. Also, they announced RVD vs. Wagner for the newly created AAA Latin America Title.
– Park and Mesias agreed to the Mask vs. Hair showdown for TripleMania after the Semi-Main Event.
– After the Main Event a big AAA vs. La Sociedad/TNA brawl started and Dorian Roldan vowed to use TNA to destroy AAA.
AAA 06/04 TV Taping Lineup

AAA 06/18 “TripleMania XIX” PPV Lineup
1) Fabi Apache, Mari Apache, Cinthia Moreno, & Lolita vs. Mickie James, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, & Sexy Star
2) AAA Tag Team Titles: Extreme Tiger & Jack Evans (c) vs. Abyss & Mr. Anderson
3) Cibernetico, Charly Manson, Escoria, Billy el Malo, & Taboo vs. La Parka Jr., Drago, Cuervo, Espiritu, & Ozz
4) AAA Latina America Title: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Rob Van Dam
5) AAA Heavyweight Title: El Zorro (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett
6) Mask vs. Hair Match: L.A. Park vs. El Mesias
* NOTES *
– There will likely be a couple more matches added. Wagner vs. RVD is a first ever match I believe and should be interesting. Definitely a styles clash there. The Tag Titles Match makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Two guys who have never teamed in their lives getting a Tag Title shot? Why not bring Beer Money again this year? Or even AJ & Daniels or AJ & Kaz? This makes zero sense. Park vs. Mesias is a huge match and I truly don’t know who would go over here. I just find it hard to believe they would have Park drop his mask to anyone other than La Parka Jr. at this point.

Jay Lethal To LL-USA
Lucha Libre USA announced this week that former TNA X-Division Champion, Jay Lethal, would be appearing at the 05/28 TV Taping at the Hard Rock in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is the first bit of news we’ve gotten about LL-USA since it was announced that MTVTres would start airing TNA’s Impact. Psicosis II is also supposed to appear at that show. Right now the only stars that LL-USA has confirmed for that TV Taping (via the show poster) is Psicosis II, Rebecca Reyes, Marco Corleone, Mascarita Dorada, Charly Malice (I don’t know that this will happen with his legal troubles, he may not be able to leave the country), and Mini Park.

* NOTES *
– Due to Amasis’ recent injury the planned Osirian Portal vs. Throwbacks match was cancled. Instead, Ophidian of Osirian Portal faced Willow The Wisp II. No, it’s not Jeff Hardy under the mask, but I’m guessing either a) its a local wrestler that is using the gimmick since Hardy used it in the Carolinas or b) someone CHIKARA put under the mask since they were in the Carolinas. I have no clue who was under the mask regardless. Also, The Throwbacks faced CHIKARA fan favorites Los Ice Creams.

– Black Tiger actually pinned Dragon in the 3rd Fall but Dragon had his foot on the bottom rope. The Lucha Comissioner saw this and had the fall restarted. Eventually Dragon got the win and Black Tiger removed his mask revealing that it was Tatsuhito Takaiama (which is the same who lost the Black Tiger V mask to Tiger Mask in Japan).

TNA’s Long Relationship With Lucha Libre
For many years TNA Wrestling has had an on and off relationship with the world of Lucha Libre, mainly because of Lucha’s similarities to TNA’s X-Division. TNA’s relationship with Lucha began in 2003 when Konnan came to TNA and claimed that the X-Division was a ripoff of Lucha Libre thus causing Jerry Lynn to step up and defend the division. This led to Lynn facing Konnan as well as former ECW star Super Crazy, Juventud Guerrera, and the S.A.T. during the feud. Because of his performance in the match with Lynn, Juventud was brought back several times to TNA including the first ever Super X-Cup which saw Juventud make it all the way to the finals before falling to Chris Sabin. Juventud returned to TNA along with other AAA star’s Abismo Negro, Mr. Aguila, and Hector Garza (with Antonio Pena by their side) to take part of the first ever America’s X-Cup against TNA’s Team America (Jerry Lynn, Chris Sabin, Elix Skipper, & Christopher Daniels). Team Mexico won the America’s X-Cup and ended up successfully defending it two more times against Team Canada in America’s X-Cup II and against Team UK in America’s X-Cup III. Before America’s X-Cup III Juventud Guerrera wasn’t brought back because he injured Jerry Lynn in a match where Juvi botched a Juvi Driver. Replacing Juventud as Captain of Team Mexico was Hector Garza. Heavy Metal was also brought onto Team Mexico. After winning a 3rd straight Americas X-Cup TNA announced the first ever World X-Cup in 2004.
Team Mexico returned to face Team TNA (Jerry Lynn, Chris Sabin, Elix Skipper, & Christopher Daniels), Team Canada (Petey Williams, Johnny Devine, Eric Young, & Bobby Roode), and Team Japan (NOSAWA, Mitsu Hirai Jr., Taichi Ishikara, & Hirai Nobukazu). After Team Japan was eliminated in the Tournament it came down to Team TNA (Sabin) vs. Team Canada (Williams) vs. Team Mexico (Garza) in an Ultimate X Match. Sabin won the match giving Team USA the World X Cup win. Following the World X-Cup Garza remained in TNA. He won the very first match on TNA’s first 3-hour Sunday PPV (Victory Road) in 2004 which was a Gauntlet For The Gold Match last eliminating former TNA X-Division Champion Frankie Kazarian. Fellow Lucha legends L.A. Park (original La Parka) and Psicosis also took part in the match. Psicosis and Park stuck around after Victory Road for a few weeks, and Psicosis actually faced NWA World Champion Jeff Jarrett on the Main Event of TNA’s Impact. Garza remained in TNA for several months and was getting a big push which actually saw him defeat AJ Styles in an excellent match on Impact. Garza was scheduled to face Scott Hall in a big match for him at TNA’s Final Resolution in 2005 but as he was entering the United States he was stopped by customs and an illegal Steroid was found on him. This steroid was actually legal in Mexico and Garza claimed that he didn’t know it was illegal in America, and said that it was prescribed by a doctor because of a knee surgery he previously had. As a result of this Garza was deported and banned from entering the United States for 5 years thus ending his run in TNA.
Following Garza’s TNA departure, they were searching for another Luchador. In 2005 Shocker was unhappy in the way he was being used in CMLL and signed with TNA (as well as jumping to AAA while he worked in Mexico). Shocker’s first PPV match for TNA was at 2005’s Lockdown when he defeated Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, and Michael Shane in an X-Division Xscape Steel Cage Match to earn a shot at the X-Division Title. Shocker got his shot at Christopher Daniel’s TNA X-Division Championship at “Hard Justice,” but though he put on a great match, he was unsuccessful. He went onto have a very entertaining feud with Alex Shelley that lasted for 3 months with Shelley winning the “rubber match” at “Sacrifice.” In 2006 TNA brought back the World X-Cup and Shocker was selected to lead Team Mexico which also consisted of Magno, Incognito, and Puma. Following Team Mexico’s loss in the World X-Cup Shocker returned to Mexico for good going back to CMLL.
In late 2004 TNA had broken ties with AAA due to supposedly problems with Antonio Pena and started bringing in Luchadors independently rather than through AAA. This relationship was renewed in 2006 when TNA and AAA co-promoted an event in Mexico which saw TNA stars Jeff Jarrett, Abyss, Konnan, AJ Styles, Low-Ki, Ron Killings, and Homicide compete at the event. This continued until Konnan left TNA in 2007 and returned full time with AAA cutting ties completely with TNA.
In 2008 TNA instead signed a working relationship with AAA’s rival CMLL and Paco Alonso. This relationship resulted in TNA signing CMLL star Dark Angel to a contract with the promotion. Angel became Sarita in TNA and still works for both TNA and CMLL. This also led to CMLL sending a group of stars to TNA for the 3rd World X-Cup. Volador Jr., Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, and Averno won the 2008 World X-Cup after Volador won the final match, an Ultimate X Match, at Victory Road 2008. CMLL star Alex Koslov was also a member of Team International. Volador would go on to wrestle several more times for TNA on both Impact in tag team matches with New Japan star Hiroshi Tanahashi, as well as competing (and doing very well) in an Elimination X Match at Turning Point 2008. Several TNA stars also appeared for CMLL and the trio of the Motor City Machine Guns & Sonjay Dutt actually defeated the CMLL Trios Champions (Ultimo Guerrero, Negro Casas, & Atlantis) in a Non-Title Match earning the right to face the champs for the belts. That match happened at CMLL’s 75th Anniversary Show which saw Los Guerreros Negros retain their belts over the TNA team. TNA did have more success in CMLL, however, when TNA sent a group of it’s stars to compete in CMLL’s 2008 International Grand Prix (which was the last time CMLL did the Gran Prix). This was a 16 man (2 8-man teams) Cibernetico (Elimination Match). TNA’s representatives were AJ Styles, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Johnny Devine, Chris Sabin, and Alex Shelley. CMLL star (at that time) Marco Corleone was a part of Team TNA due to him being an America. Team TNA picked up the win when the match came down to Shocker & Ultimo Guerrero (2 luchadors who had wrestled in TNA) against the Motor City Machine Guns. The Guns double teamed Shocker and took him only to have Guerrero turn around and take Sabin out leaving Guerrero vs. Shelley. In the end Shelley surprised Guerrero and picked up the win for Team TNA.
Following that CMLL sent Rey Bucanero & Ultimo Guerrero to TNA to wrestle at a few live events in Texas but neither side ever sent another star to the others promotion afterward. Sarita/Dark Angel continues to compete for both TNA and CMLL but the talent exchange relationship wasn’t renewed between TNA and CMLL. This left TNA open to do business with AAA again. Konnan had filed a lawsuit against TNA after leaving the company and it had since been settled privately out of court. TNA and AAA agreed to work together again, and TNA sent former multi-time TNA World Tag Team Champion Hernandez to AAA where he stayed for almost an entire year as part of Konnan’s La Legion stable. TNA also sent Mr. Anderson to AAA for the 2010 Rey de Reyes event where Anderson received a shot at the AAA Heavyweight Title, but was unsuccessful at winning the belt. At “TripleMania” TNA sent Beer Money and Abyss to AAA for AAA’s annually biggest event of the year. Beer Money competed in a Fatal 4-Way for the AAA Tag Team Titles but were unsuccessful. Abyss teamed with Cibernetico to face El Zorro & Vampiro in a Hardcore Tag Team Match which Abyss & Ciber won. For many month it seemed like El Zorro was going to come to TNA after he had announced that he agreed to a contract with the company (which would allow him to continue working for AAA as well), but nothing materialized.
This past week TNA released a promo video declaring war on AAA with Jeff Jarrett, Beer Money, AJ Styles, Mr. Anderson, Bully Ray, Matt Hardy, and Mick Foley all saying they were coming to Mexico to take on AAA. Jeff Jarrett and Abyss made their first appearances this week joining up with former WWE and ECW star Super Crazy (who actually wrestled ONCE in TNA back in the day) in a Trios Match. Jarrett, Abyss, Mickie James, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Mr. Anderson, & RVD are all scheduled to wrestle at TripleMania with possibly more TNA stars heading over there. Will any AAA stars invade TNA? I guess we’ll just have to watch and find out.
