Wrestleview Review: AEW Rampage live special – 4/15/22

Due the NBA on TNT, AEW Rampage aired live at a special time of 7:00 pm ET/4:00 pm PT.

Below is a review from myself and from my daughter Gabby of Friday’s AEW Rampage that featured a Texas Tornado World Title Match.

Blackpool Combat Club (Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta) vs. Gunn Club (Billy Gunn, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn)

Jerome’s thoughts: The crowd was hot for this great opening match. I did enjoy Bryan Danielson’s short heel run, but with Moxley and Regal in the mix, it makes sense to have him as a babyface. The action was great and the match was enjoyable and a good way to kick-off the live show.

Gabby’s thoughts: The match was fun and the action was all over the place. It was a wild match and the crowd was loud and behind Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta.

The Butcher vs. Barrett Brown

Jerome’s thoughts: I am not sure why this match even took place. It was a quick squash match and took away from a little tv time in my opinion.

Gabby’s thoughts: Predictable bathroom break match. Enough said.

-Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Qualifying Match: Ruby Soho vs. Robyn Renegade

Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Qualifying Match: Ruby Soho vs. Robyn Renegade

Jerome’s thoughts: I was surprised to see Ruby Soho back on regular AEW programming after being on Dark for so long. Even though I expected Soho to win, it was still fun with Robyn Renegade and her twin sister switching places – they pulled a Bella Twins from Raw several years back.

Gabby’s thoughts: I was glad to see Ruby Soho go over and get a win after being on Dark. She has been basically forgotten about.

AEW Championship Texas Death Championship Match: Hangman Page (c) defended against vs. Adam Cole

Jerome’s thoughts: This match was an absolute gem. Tony Khan said a few weeks ago, Rampage was going back to its roots. The crowd was loud and wild during this match. They were really into it all night. Both Adam Page and Adam Cole worked really hard and put themselves in some very crazy spots. Yes, there was blood and rightfully so in a match like this. It made sense for Adam Page to go over. I did not expect a title change on Rampage, although it would have made a great surprise and would have generated a lot of talk. I don’t expect Adam Page to drop the title until All Out or Full Gear. Adam Cole is worthy of holding the AEW World Title. He is a great worker, and the crowd is behind him despite being a heel.

Gabby’s thoughts: This match was wild and crazy. The action was great, the spots were crazy and this match is what wrestling should be – violent and bloody.
