Notes from Cody Rhodes meeting with the media on Sunday

Cody Rhodes said he doesn’t think he wants a management job in wrestling ever again

During a meeting with the media on Sunday, former AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes addressed a number of topics surrounding his return to WWE.

Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 Night One on Saturday as Vince McMahon’s handpicked opponent for Seth Rollins. Rhodes defeated Rollins using his finishing Cross Rhodes to get the pin on Rollins.

When asked if he has interest in following in his late father’s footsteps with a role on the developmental side of WWE, he said “never say never,” but then followed up by saying it is not something he is interested in.

He did further emphasize on never say never comment, with the following:

“Never say never, just general because in six years if we’re having this conversation again and I’ve completely gone back on what I said, I don’t think I want a management job in wrestling ever again…I don’t think I was mature enough for it. And — I tried.”

Rhodes also said if he never walks into the WWE Performance Center, he would be happy. He said it is a little too hard for him because that is where his father’s office was at, and his boots are displayed there.

He said he is a wrestler, and that’s probably what’s best for him. He also further noted that being a wrestler is what people dream about – not being an executive.

“As much as I loved where I was and I loved my job, it’s no one’s dream to be an executive…it’s pretty cool for a minute, and then you get blamed for everything. Which, that’s part of it. It’s not your dream. Everyone who wants to be a wrestler, the dream is putting the belt on in their underwear. That’s the dream. And I locked myself out of that because I didn’t want to upset fans and do that, and they still got pissed. So I’m thinking, oh, well, f*ck, sorry. I locked myself out of the main title picture.”

Rhodes will be appearing on this Monday’s episode of WWE Raw.
