January 12th Newswire
– Philadelphia was rocking as ROH and HDNet converged to put together another 6 weeks of the best wrestling on television! Film crews from NBC were on hand shooting for the upcoming Jerry Seinfeld production ?The Marriage Ref?, and DJ Peter Rosenberg from New York’s Hot97FM took in the action as well. Thank you to all of the fans that attended the tapings, even with the time change last Saturday you packed the Arena and we appreciate it more than you could ever know!
– Thank you to everyone that tuned in last night to HDNet! The main event saw Kenny Omega defeat Chris Hero in a great back and forth contest to score a spot in the inaugural Pick 6 Standings. Let us know what you thought of the show at www.twitter.com/rohonhdnet. Kenny Omega is having a very successful tour of Japan as we speak, and Hero is also in the land of the rising sun for Pro Wrestling NOAH with ?Kings of Wrestling? partner, Claudio Castagnoli. Hero and Castagnoli still hold high rank in the Pick 6 (three and one, respectively) but seem to have their eyes focused on the Briscoe Brothers? ROH World Tag Team Titles. How will their focus on tag team action impact the Pick 6, or do they have more than just tag team gold on their agenda?
– ROH on HDNet Executive Producer James E. Cornette made it official, Tyler Black has one more shot at the Ring of Honor World Title and it will come as Ring of Honor celebrates its eighth anniversary on February 13th in New York at the Manhattan Center. Holden McNeil takes a look at the match, with its added stipulation at http://rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=3162. Cornette has decided that three judges will sit ringside for the bout, just to ensure a clear victor should a repeat of Final Battle take place. The way their battle ended in December made that contest one of the most polarizing matches in ROH history, and it appears that measures are in place to ensure that both men will leave it all in the ring! Get your tickets now! Can Black right all of Aries? wrongs? Or will ?A Double? cement his legacy as one of the greatest ROH champions ever?
– It’s clear that Steve Corino has forged an extremely deep and troubling relationship with Kevin Steen. Steen was a complete ?180? over last weekend, with a deadly mean streak yet unseen in ROH and an equally bizarre attitude backstage. If you didn?t know it, you?d think Steen was as happy as ever. HDNet crews were noticeably uncomfortable shooting Steen in close proximity, and viewers in the coming weeks will see why. Colt Cabana attempted to talk to Steen on more than one occasion, both in front of and behind cameras, and got nowhere. Cabana did exchange words with Corino, who late in the tapings publicly warned Cabana to ?be careful who he stands up for?. There was no physicality between any of the men in Philadelphia, as sources confirmed that El Generico completely secluded himself from the rest of the crew except for Cabana and was uncharacteristically absent from ?normal interaction?. Generico also went winless for the taping, and reportedly was very emotional after both of his matches. We?ll have more on this going forward.

– The balance of tag team power is in flux once more in ROH as the Dark City Fight Club scored the upset of their ROH lives by upending the American Wolves in Philadelphia. After being snubbed by fans (who chose the Wolves to face the Young Bucks last Friday), the DCFC took it out first on the Bravado Brothers, and then went out and beat the Wolves. ?We weren?t happy,? said Kory Chavis. ?We wanted the Bucks, but the fans didn?t. And we showed them what we think of their opinion.? The DCFC has demanded a ?big? match on February 13th in New York City. We?ll have more on this as it develops.
– Ring of Honor is proud to support Colt Cabana as he makes his way into his new Chicago improv comedy home, ComedySportz. The worlds of comedy and wrestling will collide when Colt debuts at Wednesday Night’s Main Event with his team, KAYFABE. WNME will run every Wednesday night from January 27 through March 10 and will also include a comedy gameshow, band, and much more. – Sources indicate that ROH officials have received an answer to Brian Kendrick’s challenge for the ?8th Anniversary Show? from a ?high profile ROH star?. We?re told that an announcement is forthcoming.
– Signed for ROH’s return to Philadelphia on February 5th and 6th: The Necro Butcher, Kenny King, Davey Richards, El Generico, Colt Cabana (Feb 5 Only), and Tyler Black. We?ll have a big announcement for this set of tapings next week in the Newswire.
