All that, plus–also available on thebradyhicks.com–IVAN KOLOFF interviews with Rich Baker on FOR THE LOVE OF WRESTLING, NICK CVJETKOVICH’s sixty minute, tear-filled interview with Brady Hicks regarding his close friend Shawn Osbourne, fantasy Diva vs. Knockout booking, debates over WWE’s PG rating and fraud wrestlers on Facebook, plus details of ITR’s upcoming Match Madness tournament.
East Coast Wrestling Association, Voorhees, New Jersey– The 2011 ECWA Super 8 Tournament is looking a little bit more dynamic than ever before, with the introductions of up-and-coming lucha star Rich Swann and the internationally savvy Shockwave the Robot on this week’s edition of IN THE ROOM with Brady Hicks.
Shockwave, who is billed as “The World’s Only Breakdancing Wrestling Robot,” is quickly becoming one of the most popular and recognizable pro wrestlers and entertainers in the world today. Now … could those in attendance this April 30th in Voorhees, NJ finally find out what wrestling fans in Japan and other parts of the world have known for years? Shockwave The Robot is a seasoned wrestler capable of taking the tournament. Shockwave sets himself apart from pretty much any other wrestler in the squared circle. Complete with his spectacular ring entrance, laser lights and Co2 confetti blaster, his original wrestling style/persona includes a stupid fresh flyboy breakdancing exit complete with audience participation. “Can you break it down?”
In 2009, Shockwave was #500 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s top 500 wrestlers. Current WWE star Dolph Ziggler and former WWE stars such as Duke The Dumpster Droese and Zeus have all been #500.
Joining Shockwave in the 2011 Super 8 class will be up-and-coming lucha libre style-wrestler Rich Swann. For the past three years, Swann has been collecting experience in promotions such as EVOLVE, Dragon-Gate USA, Combat Zone Wrestling, and Maryland Championship Wrestling, among many other companies. With his unique aerial ability, could this disciple of Adam Flash and Trent Acid have what it takes to Standing 450 Splash his way into the big time?
“This is very exciting for me,” commented Swann, prior to coming on the air. “I feel like I have a lot to prove in this tournament. In the past I’ve faired well against guys like Sami [Callihan] who have already been announced. I can’t help but think this year … this time … could help get me to that next level.”
Of course, Swann and Shockwave each face an uphill battle in this year’s Super 8 tournament. As announced in recent weeks, they will be joined by two-time Super 8 runner up Tommaso Ciampa, indie standout Sami Callihan, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s 2010 Rookie of the Year, Adam Cole. This year’s tournament will take place at the Flyers’ Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, a move ECWA owner Mike Tartaglia hopes will make it more accessible to ADDITIONAL ECWA fans in New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, while still being being close to Delaware. Either way, it will make this year’s Super 8 tournament more centrally located than ever before.
Tune in each week to the IN THE ROOM podcast on thebradyhicks.com, as a new member of the 2011 Super 8 class is announced.
