Introduction

Ladies and gentleman, make sure those notebooks are open and those number two pencils are sharpened. Direct your attention to the front of the classroom and prepare to be schooled by the one and only Mr.V! (From: Allison Ross)

(Thanks Allison for the introduction).

With that said…

Welcome to the latest edition of “From the Desk of Mr. V”. I am Anthony “Mr. V” Valvo, your WrestleView resident teacher with the same material as last time, but different names, matches, and articles.

In this week’s lecture, I will review some good and bad moments from TNA’s Bound for Glory and go over what in the world is going on with the commentary teams in the WWE.

So sit back and grab some coffee, a hot cup of apple cider, or whatever your choice of beverage may be this week. Relax as you read the 96th Installment of “From the Desk of Mr. V”.

Countdown to Mr. V #100…21 Days!

Quote of the Week

In the United States, we are going to be celebrating the holiday called “Thanksgiving”. I know that many countries from around the world celebrate it in some way or another. So this week, I have a few quotes to celebrate this wonderful holiday. By the way, it is the only holiday where one can stuff their faces with food and not worry about ruining their figure.

“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.” – E.P. Powell

“Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action.” – W.J. Cameron

“Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.” – Edward Stanford Martin

And this would not be the same without a YouTube Clip about Thanksgiving.

Let’s Talk Turducken!

Teacher’s Lecture

I actually liked last week’s lecture so much that I decided to pick five stories and give you a few thoughts as you digest your turkey, stuffing, and “root” beer.

Enjoy the thoughts…

1) The Miz cashed in his Awesome case and thus “The Era of Awesomeness” begins!

My thoughts: Long story short, to those that missed Monday Night Raw here is the story. Wade Barrett’s merry men (The Nexus) attacked Randy Orton before the match began, but still Randy Orton (with the help of John Cena) was able to connect with the RKO to Barrett for the victory to retain the WWE Championship. However, when Orton limped to the ring corner to celebrate his victory, we get “awesome”.

The Miz found his opportunity! He wrestled back and forth with Orton. Miz then reversed the RKO with The Skull Crushing Finale to earn his first WWE World Championship. To me, it is almost a “WrestleMania Moment” when kids are pointed out in the Orlando crowd and you see one that will be highlighted for years to come. I won’t post a clip of the girl who was mad about all this, but you can be a part of “The Angry Miz Girl” fan page on Facebook. I know I am.

Look, as much as many people don’t like the move I like it. Even though The Miz was a bit lost in the shuffle, he started to gain steam with his words at Survivor Series. A lot of my WrestleView students expected The Miz to cash it in last Sunday, but we got a twist and Miz cashed it in the next day.

I knew that The Miz was going to cash it the moment Alex Riley took over his spot to face Ezekiel Jackson in a King of the Ring Qualifier. So to the WWE booking team on Raw, I actually applaud the move. It was evident that Miz would win this championship. Three years ago, we wrote the guy off as a “reality TV star who can’t wrestle”. When The Miz teamed up with John Morrison and formed “MizMo” (credit: Dave Stephens), many told their friends that The Miz was the “Marty” to Morrison’s “HBK”. Well, while Morrison won an Intercontinental Championship since the break up The Miz has been on a tear. Miz feuded with Cena, Daniel Bryan, R-Truth, you name it. Miz was brilliant and his star shined brighter because of his gimmick. The WWE gave him a push, and he extended on it. Miz made himself a household name to the common wrestling fan.

Now look, since he won the WWE Championship last Monday a lot of mainstream media outlets (including my home page MSN.com) picked up on his victory. It is a feel-good moment for a guy who worked from the bottom and thrived. Miz’s perseverance should not be punished by the average wrestling fan, but rewarded. The WWE rewarded the Miz with a World Championship and Cleveland’s favorite son finally did something LeBron James could not do (even though we really cover sports entertainment).

So I know The Miz gets this a lot, but I say congratulations! I was one of the many that wrote him off when he was jobbing on Smackdown and now look at him. He is a strong candidate for the 2010 Wrestler of the Year when my Year-End Awards come out. He already got the WWE Triple Crown in 2010 alone!

2) AJ is the latest NXT Rookie Diva eliminated.

My thoughts: Let’s see here, AJ may have been the best rookie in the bunch. Just watch her most recent matches. I think AJ is a mix of Melina (flexibility) and Rey Mysterio (he ability to sell and hit spots when needed). She even added a submission finisher, which is not easy for a women’s wrestler. She was the favorite to be the NXT Winner, but it is a shame that the “WWE Universe” or whoever rigged the voting thought that she was not the winner.

Students, I have NO problem that Naomi is in the finals. She can handle her own in the ring and might be the best all-around diva that the WWE has. On the mic, she struggles but who doesn’t these days as a WWE Diva? Kaitlyn, as much as I find entertaining should not have made it this far. The only reason she is still in the competition? The Vickie Guerrero effect.

Vickie made Edge a champion, Dolph Ziggler a champion, The Big Show a World Championship contender, and now Vickie Guerrero will do one of the best things in her illustrious career. That is to take someone literally right out of NXT (remember, she was supposed to have Aloisia as a rookie) in Kaitlyn and make her the next Breakout Diva. And that is a shame in my book.

As for AJ, she will be around the WWE sometime soon. She proved to the brass, in my opinion, that she has the tools to be the future of the WWE Divas. She is the look, personality, and of course the wrestling to make it far. Kaitlyn will made it because of Vickie. Naomi will make it on her skill (by the way, if you thought Naomi vs. AJ was good on NXT this past week should check out their work in FCW). But AJ, when she reaches her full potential should break out and be the face of the Divas Division in the future. I try to speak the truth and make risky predictions. I will make another risky prediction…AJ will be a WWE Divas Champion before anyone on that NXT Roster and even Kelly Kelly. Like a Mysterio-like wrestler, AJ can make a below-average women’s wrestler average. Let’s just hope AJ arrives in the WWE Raw or Smackdown roster very soon.

3) Kurt Angle gave his views on the WWE right now.

Before I lecture to my class, here is what “The Pride of Pittsburgh” Kurt Angle posted on Twitter.

“I truly look a WWE and it’s not the same without Shawn, HHH, Rock, Austin and me. They have incredible talent like Taker, Kane and others I thank GOD Vince game me a chance, but any talent won’t be is HUGE as we were. I’m not trying to benefit TNA. I love TNA. But WWE needs upper talent. I hope they do it, but when I was in WWE, the talent was incredible. Rey Mysterio, Cena and Orton picked up the slack. But is WWE like it was? TNA has awesome talent. I pray we can compete up against the Monster WWE someday. I will do my very best. I loved WWE when I was there-but TNA is better for me. I pray we both succeed incredibly. A big shout out to some of my boys that I forgot to mention in my comment last night, Edge, Y2J, Christian, Eddie and Benoit. Good times!!!”

My thoughts: In his first statement, let’s face it Angle is right. It is not the same without Michaels, Austin, Rock, HHH (who is inactive for now) and like Rick Pitino once said “they won’t be coming back and if they did, they would be gray and old”. Look, he still thanks Vince McMahon for the chance and why not? If not for McMahon, Kurt Angle would have only been a hero in Pittsburgh and the United States for winning an Olympic Gold Medal in 1996. Now, he has fans from all around the world.

As for his comment that the talent won’t be “as huge as they were”, he is right…for now. The WWE is in a mode where they want to try new things, and why not? The WWE is by far the best company in professional wrestling. No matter what TNA says, they are not in the WWE’s league when it comes to resources. I wish I can make a case otherwise. Mysterio, Cena, and Orton can only take the WWE so far. So what can the WWE do? Throw guys on a wall and hope they stick. The WWE threw guy in the mix like Sheamus, Miz, Wade Barrett, and Alberto Del Rio and I think they have done well with those wrestlers. Now guys like Eric Escobar, Paul Birchill, and others did not work. But the WWE can take chances to see who will be a household name and who can’t hack it.

Usually, the WWE gets it right as to who are stars and who gets future endeavored. The only dispute I have since I started writing for WrestleView were the release of Colt Cabana (who I thought would have be great for the WWE) and Luke Gallows (a big man who was not given much to branch out of previous gimmicks).

When Kurt mentioned that he will do his best to compete up against the “monster WWE”, you can’t disagree with that comment. He is far doing his fair share in making TNA a better product. He is great on the mic and will risk everything to make a match memorable. Like Angle or not, he gives 100% in the ring even when he is 50%.

In conclusion, there is nothing wrong with what Kurt Angle tweeted. He just really spoke the truth and is helping TNA to the best of his abilities. He knows that WWE is “a monster”, but given his appearances and his limited schedule TNA is a perfect fit for him. TNA still has a strong following. TNA is developing some decent stories to tie into their wrestling.

While the WWE can afford to try new things and get away with it, TNA has little wiggle room. Let’s hope for competition sakes that Angle and the others in TNA give 100% and make the TNA product better. If TNA gets better, so will the WWE.

4) John Cena moved to the WWE Alumni Page.

My thoughts: To summarize, it is a storyline. Don’t take any of this “Cena is gone” seriously. Soon, he will introduce us to his cousin from Mexico. Then his cousin will be unmasked and it will be, well, John Cena.

5) Matt and Jeff Hardy shoot on CM Punk.

My thoughts: Well, after listening to them “shoot” on CM Punk for a couple minutes proved that the WWE make the right decision to release two immature, “grown” men. I thought Jeff Hardy was better than this to be honest. He seemed like a “modest” guy, but I guess even teachers can be wrong.

As for Matt Hardy, get over Lita please! Also, glad to see you are off your “grape diet”. French Fries are quite tasty.

That wraps up my lecture, are there…

Any Questions?

This is a new topic of mine. Since I am no longer the ROH on HDNet Recapper for powers that I could not control, I decided to add another feature to the column. I looked on my Facebook Wall and saw a few things from my readers and I will do my best to provide some thoughts on them. Also, I will attempt to make my reply brief, but effective for my students. Remember, if not for students there would be no teachers. I see some hands up…

Hey, V. Isn’t the title of King of the Ring now exclusively a heel title, what with the arrogance that comes from winning it, calling everybody peasants? Isn’t it safe to say that we can eliminate all the babyfaces from winning when making our picks? Thanks, V. (From: Wade Bradford)

That is a very good question, Mr. Bradford. Thanks for the question.

Now I won’t include the Pre-1993 “Kings”, because honestly I am not too familiar with the gimmicks they had. It looked like there was a split between faces and heels that won the King title.

Let me look at the “Kings” from 1993 – Present

Bret Hart (1993), Owen Hart (1994), Mable (1995) (I think he was heel), Steve Austin (1996), HHH (1997), Ken Shamrock (1998), Mr. A$$ (1999), Kurt Angle (2000), Edge (2001), Brock Lesnar (2002), Booker T (2006), and William Regal (2008).

Based on all these names, I believe that most of them were heels. Also, most of these “Kings” cashed in and became World Champions (and Regal had a good push if not for his suspension during that reign).

So, eight wrestlers will do battle in 2010’s King of the Ring this Monday. I am sorry to distribute spoilers, but it needs to be done for the integrity of the piece.

Faces: Kofi Kingston, Ezekiel Jackson, Daniel Bryan, and John Morrison
Heels: Alberto Del Rio, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, and Sheamus

Based on your question, Mr. Bradford, it is a pretty safe bet to pick one of the four heels in this match. My question is who would gain the most with the “King” title to their name? I would say most of these faces are out, maybe Daniel Bryan gets an upset or Big Zeke could shock. I don’t see Morrison or Kingston winning this because they are not there.

Now the heels, it is very interesting. I say Sheamus is out because him being a King would not do much, I mean he already was a World Champion. McIntyre is hot and cold so I don’t see that either. Rhodes and Del Rio both have some potential, but I can’t help but to go with Del Rio.

So, here is what I am betting on:

Finals: Alberto Del Rio vs. Daniel Bryan. Del Rio becomes the winner and uses the “King” gimmick on a struggling Smackdown program.

My bet, Mr. Bradford? Go with the heel in this King of the Ring. King Del Rio…nice ring to it, huh.

Ok, I have time for one more question…

Although a lot of us know the history of Kaval and Daniel Bryan, do you feel it could benefit WWE to get some more buys for WM2011 by putting the IC title onto Kaval, and having a match between the two to unify the titles? (By: Ken Konarzewski)

Thank you for the question, KenCo! And also, thank YOU for the t-shirt. Funny thing is my daughter wore it before I did because Zack Ryder was on the shirt. We all should be glad that he did not get released this weekend, right?

Now to answer this question that I must answer. Will the buyrates be higher if Kaval took on Daniel Bryan for a unification bout?

As much as I want to say “yes” to this type of match, my mind is going to go with “no”.

I think the average wrestling fan wants to see all the big names and celebrities. They want to see John Cena, Triple H, Edge, Orton, Miz, and The Undertaker and his quest for twenty WrestleMania victories.

Now, to have Kaval as the Intercontinental Champion would be a solid move if it leads to the match you are requesting. I always am going to purchase WrestleMania regardless of what the card looks like (unless it is awful). Adding Kaval and Bryan into a program that has the payoff would work, but I think the fans that are undecided might be lean towards buying the PPV because of a mid-card match. They want the top guys, not two guys that the diehard wrestling fan follows.

I honestly hate to say this, but my radio co-host Dave Stephens is right. If the WWE signed Justin Bieber (whom I loathe and would not care if he walked in front of a bus), the buyrates will rise high because the teenagers will beg their parents to spend fifty-five bucks to her him sing the national anthem in his five-year old girl voice.

So, adding a couple celebrities and having your healthy main event talents compete in programs will be the moneymakers of WrestleMania. Adding the mid-card guys like Kaval and Daniel Bryan along with a Money in the Bank Ladder Match will be a nice bonus and if successful will make the event worth the money. I just don’t think, sadly, that the common fan would care about Kaval vs. Bryan. And as much as I would enjoy it, that would not make me want to pay the money just because they will be in a match.

Thanks for the question, Ken. I appreciate it.

Stay tuned for DETENTIONS!

Detentions

The Toyota Motor Company – Seriously, I hate the commercials for the Highlander and the ads on YouTube, etc. I don’t blame the kid saying “it is lame” bit because he is paid well. However, whoever runs the marketing there deserves a chokeslam by Kane followed by a botched Styles Clash.

The WWE Universe – Many people suggest this nomination because of the way they voted off AJ from NXT (though she may have been the best in this season) and complaining that the WWE does not push young stars. Well, The Miz and Orton are both in their early 30s, so mission accomplished!

WWE – They get one for releasing my favorite referee, Aaron “Goose” Mahoney! Also, they released (but brought back) the Swagger Soaring Eagle. I scream discrimination of birds by the WWE. No wonder the World Wildlife Fund won’t let them have the “WWF” abbreviations.

Shore – As much as I like Robbie E. as a wrestler, this gimmick is still brutal.

HDNet – They will be on this list until I get their programming on Comcast. Speaking of Comcast.

Comcast – They raised my prices again!!

The NFL Referees and whoever runs the league – I know this is not wrestling, but I am very tired of clean hits getting penalized. The league has now become a joke to this once-proud football fan. I guess if I want to see “real” football, I will check Aussie Rules football!

Honestly, that is it. I think every show that I watched was not terrible. Maybe a few skits here and there, but this is all I have.

High Honors – Yoshi Tatsu vs. Primo, WWE Superstars, November 18.

Mr. V’s Gold Star Segment

Gold Stars brought to you by: ColtMerch.com! Take a look at Colt Cabana’s merchandise and you won’t be disappointed.

Also, while you are at it check out www.jrsbarbq.com. Jim Ross has some specials on all the BBQ Sauce you need. Now in some combos you can get a Free JR’s BBQ T-Shirt and even an autographed Kid’s Menu (though it may not do much good). Look at his blog and maybe buy a product or two. I know I will.

So many Gold Stars, so little time. Here are people, places, things, or ideas that I thought earned a Gold Star this past week.

Allison Ross – Thank you for the introduction. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Wade Bradford and Ken Konarzewski – Thank you both for your questions.

Ryan Rivera – Though we did tie for the best record, you get the gold star. I hate giving myself the stars.

Brian Czygan – He will be BACK as a Student of the Week thanks to a very impressive 6-1 record on the Survivor Series picks.

Jason Bitzegaio – Thank you for being a part of the picks last week.

The Miz – The NEW WWE Champion!

The Angry Miz Girl – She earns one because the WWE did something that TNA could not do in a while. That is to make a star out of someone in a matter of seconds. (It’s a joke, don’t be serious).

Natalya – The NEW WWE Divas Champion! In my opinion, it is well deserved!

“Goose” Mahoney – The best referee in professional wrestling is now out of the job…and I can’t be more disappointed! There had to be a mistake, right?

Luke Gallows – Out of all that got released in seriousness, he should have stayed on the roster. Like CM Punk said, he was given crap and turned it to gold. Fake Kane, Festus, and Luke Gallows…and he found a way to make them all work.

AJ – I will give her a gold star because well, she deserves it.

Claudio Castagnoli – For staying “Very European”.

Daizee Haze and Sara Del Ray – What a great contest they had on the 11/22 edition of ROH on HDNet.

CM Punk – We now know what he can do while he is injured for now on. What I would dream of is a commentary team of CM Punk and Colt Cabana for WWE Superstars.

Colt Cabana – I seriously never miss a weekly podcast of his. Last week he interviewed Roderick Strong and it was excellent. Also, backtrack and listen to Ace Steel’s story about being “Donald Trump”. I could not stop laughing.

Ric Flair – If anyone is worthy of a gold star in TNA, it is Flair. He may be a bit wacky, but he is entertaining in the ring.

Jimmy DeMarco – I know many of you read my IWC “Winner Takes All” piece, and he was the one that lost the career vs. career match with John McChesney. Jimmy, thank you. I may not have followed your career much, but you did a lot for IWC and it won’t be the same without you.

Ken Konarzewski – He gets another one for the Zack Ryder T-Shirt that he mailed me. It is definitely professional-grade. I actually will be wearing it for Thanksgiving because it kind of has the colors to it. I can’t thank Ken enough.

Jeremy Samples – For helping me get access to the 11/15 edition of ROH. I got to watch it hours before typing this out. To those who sent me links, I will use them as well. Don’t worry. I will shout you all out later.

Troy Aikman – He gets one for putting up with Hulk Hogan in those Rent-A-Center commercials.

The Swagger Soaring Eagle – May you enjoy your migration down south. Hopefully you will avoid being speared. I Love You, buddy!

Any other Gold Stars that I missed? Send me an e-mail.

Homework Assignment

Due the next few weeks.

Coming soon, I will present my 2nd Annual Golden Yardstick Awards. I pick the top three (or worst three) in each category and choose who I think deserves a Golden Yardstick or, worse, the Rotten Apple.

Some of the categories will be announced, as well as last year’s winners, during the next few columns. I would like to hear from you. Who do you think deserve the awards? I may put it into consideration. We are definitely doing a “fans choice” this year. I will call the “fans choice” addition the…

THE GOLD RULER/ROTTEN APPLE SLICE AWARDS!

I think we all can have a good bit of fun for this.

Also, I plan on a very reader-heavy themed Mr. V #100! Why? I am going to make this reader-themed because if not for my readers I probably would have been done after my 1st column. If not for all of you, I probably would never have made it this far on WrestleView. So, here is the question I would like to present to you.

What would you (whoever you are) like to type a paragraph about. You can be in charge of detentions, rules, gold stars, whatever you would like. Just pop me an e-mail and I will give you what I have available. I already have someone doing the Introduction to #100.

In other words, after 100 weeks I want to know what the students learned over the course of my column. I expect this to be entertaining because so many of you have great ideas.

Dismissal

Well, that does it for me this week. I thank you all for reading this column and I hope you enjoyed this column as much as I typed it out. If you want to get a hold of me during the week, please e-mail me at mistervwv@hotmail.com,/a> or at teacherslounge@hotmail.com, or by leaving me a message on Facebook. I do get a lot of e-mails and may not reply in a timely fashion, but I will do my best to give you a quicker reply.

Now, students you are allowed to leave the classroom. Please push in your chairs, line up straight, and exit to the closest door around you. Until next week, you are all……DISMISSED!

Look for Mr. V on Facebook under Anthony J. Valvo in the Pittsburgh Network. I noticed a lot of you “like” my columns and to all those, I thank you for reading.

Mr. V FINALLY has Twitter. Follow me at http://twitter.com/TheMisterV. I have been getting better with my tweets recently. I promise once I get to 100 followers I may do a contest every now and then.

THE TEACHER’S LOUNGE IS NOW AIRING ON SATURDAYS!

The Teacher’s Lounge gives the WrestleView Radio Network Audience a complete rundown of the past week’s events in professional wrestling all in a two-hour program. We even have a few games, a detention segment, as well as interviews.

This Past Week’s Guests: Clinton Bowman and OneManX (Stay Tuned for 11/29’s WrestleView Radio Show to find out why)

Already on the archives we interviewed Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings), Matt O’Brien (Notes from the Nosebleeds), Crystal Mai from Diva-Dirt.com, and The YouTube Sensation who had choice words to CM Punk, ROH Wrestler Colt Cabana, and Former WWE Diva Aloisia! For $4.99 a month, you get all of this along with many other hours of content from the other shows on the WrestleView Radio Network. Soon, we will plan on more guests.

David Stephens (That’s A Wrap and Raw recapper) and I have a weekly Internet show only on the WrestleView Radio Network. It does cost a bit of money, but we will do our best to make it worth it. If you want to be a part of the Lounge for our “E-mails” section, you may drop us a line at teacherslounge@hotmail.com. To sign up, click here.
