Ousta! Welcome back to the only WrestleView column covering topics both nowhere yet everywhere at once. If you are new to the column you are probably going to hate me for the first couple weeks, but then you are going to hit a point where you say ‘oh wait a minute, I think he gets it’. Don’t worry, that’s exactly how it is designed to be. This column is all about gut reactions and traveling thoughts. As the great Andy Kaufman once said: “I just want real reactions. I want people to laugh from the gut, be sad from the gut, or get angry from the gut”.
Are you ready? The stop questioning your heart and join me, because it is time for the 50th edition of “That’s a Wrap”!
Sooo… after that enthusiastic opening, let’s move on to the news.
What’s in the News?
My opinions are in italics
All news is gathered from WrestleView.com unless otherwise noted
Jeff Jarrett is scheduled for business meetings next week with AAA reps in Mexico
-this has come up many times in the past when the media has speculated about a business relationship between the two. I personally think that it is a fantastic idea that would strongly benefit the TNA product
TNA Knockouts – Mad Sexy Volume One is set to debut October 1, 2010 on Comcast, TimeWarner, Brighthouse, Cablevision, Cox, Directv, Dish Network, AT&T, Verizon, Viewers Choice, Bell TV or on your local cable system. This one of a kind pay-per-view special is hosted by Playboy cover girl and TNA Knockout Christy Hemme. Mad Sexy Volume One will feature matches involving TNA Knockouts: Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Taylor Wilde, Awesome Kong and Gail Kim. This one hour special will be available on a pay-per-view basis at just $9.95 until December 31st on your cable or satellite provider.
-let’s make a deal TNA. Have the women topless, and I’ll buy your PPV. Am I aloud to say that?
The strange story of an Indiana woman arrested after she attempted to purchase two properties while falsely claiming she was married to WWE agent Fit Finlay. Nanette Michelle Stone, 35, faces a maximum of 16 years in jail for two Class C felony charges of forgery.
-what the hell?
Brian Fritz of AOL Fanhouse and Between the Ropes radio has an interview up with TNA’s Eric Bischoff where he talks about the reports of Paul Heyman having talks with TNA Wrestling and why he didn’t overreact to the situation at all. Bischoff added, “Paul’s first and foremost a great promoter in the old-school sense and Paul got some attention, he got his name out there, he created some controversy, created some awareness. I believe that Paul believed every word he said but I also knew what was going on behind the scenes and I didn’t really overreact to it.”
-well, so much for that. The more I study into Heyman’s techniques the less I am sure that it would work for the TNA product. It requires a leap of faith that Dixie Carter is just not willing to take, and I don’t blame her. It’s a tough position to be willing to hand over the reins, part-ownership, and final say on hirings and firings.
To follow up on our earlier report, WWE has officially updated their talent wellness policy under “Muscle Relaxers”
-and yet they still don’t cover health costs for their talents. Before the WWE mandates what they want their “independent contractors” to do in their personal lives, how about they make them actual employees first
According to a report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, when Triple H received his new official executive title in WWE as “Senior Adviser” working under Vince McMahon, he reportedly got 5,000 shares of company stock (worth around $72,000)
-aww, he’s totally a real member of the family now! cute
Rey Mysterio being gone from WWE television at the moment as part of the Alberto Del Rio storyline is the vacation time he was promised he had requested earlier in the summer and was denied when The Undertaker went down with an injury.
-that’s certainly a very valid, and reasonable explanation
Update on Chyna via TMZ.com:
“A source close to Chyna tells us she overmedicated on Benadryl. We’re told she took 4 to 5 times the prescribed amount yesterday to help her sleep — and when she got up this morning she couldn’t walk and started throwing up. Chyna is in the ER getting fluids through an IV, according to the source — and it sounds like she’s going to be fine.”
-I have actually taken higher than that amount to fall asleep, so I’m really questioning the accuracy of this story. Now, let’s note that it seemed like a good idea at the time, but was a terrible idea which you should not follow. However, given my experience I’m seriously doubting that Benadryl was the only thing in her system.
TNA President Dixie Carter announced on her official Twitter page earlier today that Mr. Anderson has signed a new long-term contract with TNA Wrestling.
-yay?
