NJPW cancels Thursday’s Summer Struggle event due to COVID-19 concern

NJPW announced that a non-televised Summer Struggle event set for Uwajima on Thursday was canceled due to a wrestler developing a fever.

It was not revealed which wrestler developed the fever, though they were set to appear on the show. NJPW had the wrestler take a COVID-19 test, but the company was awaiting results as the start time to the show approached. Following the company guidelines on COVID-19 and for the safety of the other wrestlers and fans, the company decided to cancel the event.

Refunds will be offered and more information will be provided by NJPW as it becomes available.

August 13 Uwajima event cancelled

Today, Uwajima, Ehime prefecture was scheduled to see night 11 of the Summer Struggle tour.

Unfortunately, one of the wrestlers scheduled to appear had developed a fever. The wrestler immediately undertook additional COVID-19 testing, but New Japan Pro-Wrestling is still awaiting results. Under NJPW’s Coronavirus guidelines, and acting in the best interests of health and safety for other wrestlers and fans in attendance, the decision was made to cancel tonight’s event.

Refunds will be made available to all those who purchased a ticket for tonight’s event, and more information on this situation will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
