McMahon could set new campaign spending record

With around three months to go in the campaign season, Linda McMahon has already spent more of her own money than all but four candidates who have run for U.S. Senate in history. CQ Politics is reporting that the $22 million McMahon has spent so far is behind Jon Corzine of New Jersey in 2000 (who spent $60.2 million), Blair Hill of Illinois in 2004 (who sent $28.7 million) and Michael Huffington in 1994 (who spent $28.3 million). Based on the last year, McMahon is expected to end up in the No. 2 spot by the time November rolls around. If she ends up losing, she will have spent more money in a losing effort than any Senate candidate in history.
